Two Sides Of Silence (口白) - Linton Kwesi Johnson[00:00:00]
Written by:Linton Kwesi Johnson[00:00:00]
To us[00:00:00]
Who were of necessary birth[00:00:01]
For the earths hard and thankless toil[00:00:05]
Silence has no meaning[00:00:10]
There is never a feeling of tranquility[00:00:13]
Or mere quietness[00:00:17]
Never a moment of soundless calm[00:00:20]
From within or without our troubled selves[00:00:24]
How can the clamor of sounds be stilled[00:00:28]
There is no void where noises can collect and made mute[00:00:32]
Pure silent space[00:00:37]
How indeed[00:00:40]
Can there be silence[00:00:41]
When our hearts beat out a sonorous beat[00:00:43]
Meeting the beating drums of an african past[00:00:47]
When our eyes shed solid tears of iron blood[00:00:51]
That falls on concrete ground[00:00:56]
Inside our ears are the many wailing cries of misery[00:01:00]
Inside our bodies the internal bleeding of volcanoes[00:01:05]
Inside our heads[00:01:10]
Wrapped in thoughts of rebellion[00:01:13]
How can there be calm[00:01:16]
When the storm is yet to come[00:01:19]
This unending silence[00:01:25]
Taut impervious unbending[00:01:28]
Not lending an ear to the most delicate sounds[00:01:32]
Awaits the blast of bombs[00:01:38]
Which man will explode[00:01:41]
To break this silent bond[00:01:43]
Returment there fate[00:01:46]
To the use to create[00:01:48]
Hills of soft obedience[00:01:50]
Where sweet clothed sounds can rebound[00:01:53]
And their echoes glide[00:01:57]
Like a carefree bird[00:02:00]
In rhythmic calm[00:02:02]
To a mellow[00:02:04]
Pure silent space[00:02:06]
