In the lowlands of Creggan there lives a white hare[00:00:15]
As swift as a swallow as she flies through the air[00:00:19]
You may travel the country but none could compare[00:00:23]
With the pride of the Creggan that bonnie white hare[00:00:27]
One fine Sunday morning as you may suppose[00:00:31]
A red golden sun o'er the green mountain rose[00:00:35]
Barney Conway came down and did loudly declare[00:00:39]
Today I'll put an end to that Creggan white hare[00:00:43]
So he searched through the lowlands and down through the glens[00:00:47]
Among the green rushes where the white hare had dens[00:00:51]
'til at last coming over the bog-bank so bare[00:00:54]
From behind a white thistle out jumped the white hare[00:00:59]
Well he gave a great yelp and his dog she slipped too[00:01:03]
As swift as the wind o'er the green mountain flew[00:01:07]
But the dogs soon came back which made poor Barney sigh[00:01:10]
For he knew that the white hair had bid him good-bye[00:01:27]
We have some jolly sportsmen down from the Pomroy[00:01:34]
Cookstown Dungannon and also the Moy[00:01:38]
With pedigree greyhounds they came from afar[00:01:42]
Came down to the Creggan in their fine motor car[00:01:46]
'Twas down through the lowlands these huntsmen did go[00:01:50]
To search for the white hare they tried high and low[00:01:54]
'til at last Barney Conway as he came on its lair[00:01:57]
Shouted out to the huntsmen Here lies the white hair[00:02:02]
So they called in their greyhounds from off the green lea[00:02:06]
And Barney and the huntsmen they jumped high with glee[00:02:10]
And on the turf bank they all gathered around[00:02:14]
Seven men and nine dogs did the poor hare surround[00:02:21]
No wonder the poor puss did tremble with fear[00:02:30]
She stood on her hind legs she rose her big ear[00:02:34]
She ris on her toes and with one gallant spring[00:02:38]
Cleared over the greyhounds and broke through the ring[00:02:41]
Oh the chase it went on it was a beautiful view[00:02:45]
As swift as the wind o'er the green mountain flew[00:02:50]
But the pedigree greyhounds they didn't get far[00:02:53]
They came back and went home in their fine motor car[00:02:57]
And now to conclude and to finish my rhyme[00:03:01]
I hope you'll excuse me for wasting your time[00:03:05]
If there's any amongst you in Carrickmore Fair[00:03:09]
Drink a jolly good health to the Creggan white hare[00:03:13]
