The Shifting Whispering Sands(Remaster)

The Shifting Whispering Sands(Remastered) (Remaster) - Jim Reeves[00:00:00]

Written by:Mary Hadler/Jack Gilbert[00:00:01]

I discovered the valley of the shifting whispering sands[00:00:15]

While prospecting for gold in one of our western states[00:00:18]

I saw the silent windmills the crumbling water tanks[00:00:23]

The bones of cattle and burrows picked clean by buzzards[00:00:30]

Bleached by the desert sun[00:00:34]

I stumbled over a crumbling buckboard nearly covered by the sands[00:00:39]

And stopping to rest I heard a tinkling whispering sound[00:00:43]

And suddenly realised that even though[00:00:47]

The wind was quiet the sand did not lie still[00:00:49]

I seemed to be surrounded by a mystery so heavy[00:00:55]

And oppressive I can scarcely breath[00:00:57]

For days and weeks I wandered aimlessly in this valley[00:01:00]

Seeking answers to the many questions[00:01:03]

That raced through my fevered mind[00:01:05]

Where was everyone why the white bones the dry wells[00:01:08]

The barren valley where people must have lived and died[00:01:13]

Finally I could go no farther my food and water gone[00:01:17]

I sat down and buried my face in my hands and resting thus[00:01:21]

I learnt the secret of the shifting whispering sands[00:01:24]

How I manage to escaped from the valley I do not know[00:01:28]

But now to pay my final debt for being spared[00:01:31]

I must tell you what I learned out there on the desert[00:01:34]

So many years ago[00:01:38]

When the day is oddly quiet[00:01:41]

And the breeze seems not to blow[00:01:47]

One would think the sand was resting[00:01:52]

But you'll find this is not so[00:01:58]

It is whisp'ring softly whisp'ring[00:02:03]

As it slowly moves along[00:02:09]

And for those who stop and listen[00:02:14]

It will sing this mournful song[00:02:21]

Of sidewinders and the horntoads[00:02:26]

Of the Thorny Chaparral[00:02:32]

In the sunny days and moonlight nights[00:02:37]

The coyote's lonely yell[00:02:43]

How the stars seem you could touch them[00:02:48]

As you lay and gaze on high[00:02:54]

At the heavens where we're hoping[00:02:59]

We'll be going when we die[00:03:05]
