Patches - Clarence Carter (克拉伦斯·卡特)[00:00:00]
Written by:Johnson Nor/Ronald Dunb[00:00:00]
I was born and raised down in Alabama[00:00:01]
On a farm way back up in the woods[00:00:04]
I was so ragged that folks used to call me[00:00:06]
Patches[00:00:08]
Papa used to tease me about it[00:00:09]
'Cause deep down inside he was hurt[00:00:10]
'Cause he'd done all he could[00:00:12]
My papa was a great old man[00:00:15]
I can see him with a shovel in his hands see[00:00:18]
Education he never had[00:00:21]
He did wonders when the times got bad[00:00:24]
The little money from the crops he raised[00:00:27]
Barely paid the bills we made[00:00:30]
For life had kick him down to the ground[00:00:32]
When he tried to get up[00:00:35]
Life would kick him back down[00:00:36]
One day papa called me to his dyin' bed[00:00:38]
Put his hands on my shoulders[00:00:41]
And in his tears he said[00:00:42]
He said[00:00:43]
Patches[00:00:44]
I'm dependin' on you son[00:00:45]
To pull the family through[00:00:48]
My son it's all left up to you[00:00:51]
Two days later papa passed away and[00:01:00]
I became a man that day[00:01:03]
So I told mama I was gonna quit school but[00:01:05]
She said that was daddy's strictest rule[00:01:08]
So every mornin' 'fore I went to school[00:01:11]
I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too[00:01:14]
Sometimes I felt that I couldn't go on[00:01:16]
I wanted to leave just run away from home[00:01:19]
But I would remember what my daddy said[00:01:22]
With tears in his eyes on his dyin' bed[00:01:25]
He said[00:01:28]
Patches[00:01:28]
I'm dependin' on you son[00:01:29]
I tried to do my best[00:01:33]
It's up to you to do the rest[00:01:36]
Then one day a strong rain came[00:01:45]
And washed all the crops away[00:01:46]
And at the age of 13 I thought[00:01:49]
I was carryin' the weight of the[00:01:52]
Whole world on my shoulders[00:01:53]
And you know mama knew[00:01:55]
What I was goin' through 'cause[00:01:56]
Every day I had to work the fields[00:01:59]
'Cause that's the only way we got our meals[00:02:02]
You see I was the oldest of the family[00:02:04]
And everybody else depended on me[00:02:07]
Every night I heard my mama pray[00:02:11]
Lord give him the strength to make another day[00:02:13]
So years have passed and all the kids are grown[00:02:16]
The angels took mama to a brand new home[00:02:19]
Lord knows people I shed tears[00:02:22]
But my daddy's voice kept me through the years[00:02:25]
Sing[00:02:28]
Patches I'm dependin' on you son[00:02:28]
To pull the family through[00:02:32]
My son it's all left up to you[00:02:35]
Oh I can still hear papa's voice sayin'[00:02:41]
Patches I'm dependin' on you son[00:02:43]
I've tried to do my best[00:02:47]
It's up to you to do the rest[00:02:50]
I can still hear papa what he said[00:02:56]
Patches[00:02:58]
I'm dependin' on you son[00:02:59]
To pull the family through[00:03:02]
My son it's all left up to you[00:03:05]
