1913 Massacre

1913 Massacre (1913年大屠杀) - Ramblin' Jack Elliott[00:00:00]

Take a trip with me in nineteen thirteen[00:00:05]

To Calumet Michigan in the copper country[00:00:10]

I'll take you to a place called Italian Hall[00:00:16]

And the miners are having their big Christmas ball[00:00:23]

I'll take you in a door and up a high stairs[00:00:31]

Singing and dancing is heard everywhere[00:00:35]

I'll let you shake hands with the people you see[00:00:39]

And watch the kids dance around the big Christmas tree[00:00:46]

There's talking and laughing and songs in the air[00:00:54]

And the spirit of Christmas is there everywhere[00:00:58]

Before you know it you're friends with us all[00:01:02]

And you're dancing around and around in the hall[00:01:07]

You ask about work and you ask about pay[00:01:15]

They'll tell you they make less than a dollar a day[00:01:19]

Working their copper claims risking their lives[00:01:23]

So it's fun to spend Christmas with children and wives[00:01:28]

A little girl sits down by the Christmas tree lights[00:01:37]

To play the piano so you gotta keep quiet[00:01:40]

To hear all this fun you would not realize[00:01:44]

That the copper boss thug men are milling outside[00:01:48]

The copper boss thugs stuck their heads in the door[00:01:57]

One of them yelled and he screamed There's a fire[00:02:00]

A lady she hollered There's no such a thing[00:02:05]

Keep on with your party there's no such a thing[00:02:09]

A few people rushed and there's only a few[00:02:18]

It's just the thugs and the scabs fooling you[00:02:21]

A man grabbed his daughter and he carried her down[00:02:25]

But the thugs held the door and he could not get out[00:02:29]

And then others followed about a hundred or more[00:02:37]

But most everybody remained on the floor[00:02:41]

The gun thugs they laughed at their murderous joke[00:02:45]

And the children were smothered on the stairs by the door[00:02:49]

Such a terrible sight I never did see[00:02:58]

We carried our children back up to their tree[00:03:02]

The scabs outside still laughed at their spree[00:03:06]

And the children that died there was seventy-three[00:03:14]

The piano played a slow funeral tune[00:03:24]

And the town was lit up by a cold Christmas moon[00:03:27]

The parents they cried and the men they moaned[00:03:32]

See what your greed for money has done[00:03:39]
