Mermaid (美人鱼) - Martin Carthy[00:00:00]
Written by:Martin Carthy/Dave Swarbrick[00:00:12]
One night as I lay on my bed[00:00:24]
I lay so fast asleep[00:00:28]
When the thought of my true love come running in my head[00:00:32]
And sailors that sail on the deep[00:00:37]
As I sailed out one day one day[00:00:41]
And being not far from land[00:00:45]
There I saw a mermaid sat on a rock[00:00:49]
A comb and a glass in her hand[00:00:54]
Now the song she sang she sang so sweet[00:00:57]
No answer at all could I say[00:01:02]
Till our gallant ship she swung round about[00:01:06]
Which made our poor hearts to ache[00:01:11]
Then up stepped the helmsman of our ship[00:01:35]
In his hand a lead and line[00:01:39]
For to sound the seas so wide and so deep[00:01:42]
No hard rock or sand could he find[00:01:47]
Up stepped the captain of our ship[00:01:51]
And a well-speaking man is he[00:01:56]
He says I have a wife in fair Plymouth town[00:02:00]
This night and a widow she'll be[00:02:04]
Up stepped the bosun of our ship[00:02:08]
And a well-spoken man was he[00:02:13]
He says I have two sons in fair Bristol town[00:02:17]
And orphans I fear they will be[00:02:21]
And then up stepped our cabin boy[00:02:26]
And a fine pretty boy was he[00:02:30]
He says oh I grieve for my mother dear[00:02:34]
Whom I shall never more see[00:02:38]
Last night last night when the moon shone bright[00:03:00]
My mother she had sons five[00:03:04]
But now she may look in the salt salt sea[00:03:08]
And find but one alive[00:03:13]
Call for boats call for boats my fair Plymouth boys[00:03:17]
Do you hear how the trumpets sound[00:03:21]
For the want of a long-boat in the ocean we're lost[00:03:25]
And most of our merry men drowned[00:03:30]
