The Walloping Window Blind

The Walloping Window Blind - Natalie Merchant[00:00:00]

A capital ship for an ocean trip[00:00:10]

Was "The Walloping Window Blind;"[00:00:12]

No gale that blew dismayed her crew[00:00:14]

Or troubled the captain's mind [00:00:16]

The man at the wheel was taught to feel[00:00:18]

Contempt for the wildest blow [00:00:20]

And it often appeared when the weather had cleared [00:00:22]

That he'd been in his bunk below [00:00:24]

The boatswain's mate was very sedate [00:00:36]

Yet fond of amusement too;[00:00:38]

And he played hop-scotch with the starboard watch[00:00:40]

While the captain tickled the crew [00:00:42]

And the gunner we had was apparently mad [00:00:45]

For he sat on the after-rail [00:00:47]

And fired salutes with the captain's boots [00:00:50]

In the teeth of the booming gale [00:00:51]

The captain sat in a commodore's hat [00:00:57]

And dined in a royal way [00:00:59]

On toasted pigs and pickles and figs[00:01:01]

And gummery bread each day [00:01:03]

But the rest of us ate from an odious plate;[00:01:05]

For the food that was given the crew[00:01:07]

Was a number of tons of hot-cross buns [00:01:09]

Chopped up with sugar and glue [00:01:11]

And we all felt ill as mariners will [00:01:23]

On a diet that's cheap and rude;[00:01:25]

And the deck shook when we dipped the cook[00:01:27]

In a tub of his gluesome food [00:01:29]

Then nautical pride we laid aside [00:01:36]

And we cast the vessel ashore[00:01:38]

On the Gulliby Isles where the Poohpooh smiles [00:01:40]

And the Anagazanders roar [00:01:42]

Composed of sand was that favored land [00:02:06]

And trimmed with cinnamon straws;[00:02:09]

And pink and blue was the pleasing hue[00:02:11]

Of the Tickletoeteaser's claws [00:02:14]

And we sat on the edge of a sandy ledge[00:02:19]

And shot at the whistling bee;[00:02:21]

And the Binnacle-bats wore water-proof hats[00:02:23]

As they danced in the sounding sea [00:02:25]

On rubagub bark from dawn to dark [00:02:31]

We fed till we all had grown[00:02:33]

Uncommonly shrunk when a Chinese junk[00:02:35]

Came by from the torriby zone [00:02:37]

She was stubby and square but we didn't much care [00:02:42]

And we cheerily put to sea;[00:02:45]

And we left the crew of the junk to chew[00:02:46]

The bark of the rubagub tree [00:02:49]
