When The World Was Young - Anita O'Day/The Three Sounds[00:00:00]
Written by:Gerard/Johnny Mercer[00:00:00]
It isn't by chance I happen to be a boulevardier the toast of Paree[00:00:01]
For over the noise the talk and the smoke[00:00:09]
I'm good for a laugh a drink or a joke[00:00:13]
I walk in a room a party of all[00:00:19]
Come sit over here somebody will call[00:00:23]
A drink for monsieur a drink for us all[00:00:28]
But how many times I sat and recall[00:00:34]
Are the apple trees blossoms in the breeze that we walk among[00:00:43]
Lying in the hay games we used to play while the rounds were sung[00:00:59]
Only yesterday when the world was young[00:01:14]
Wherever I go they mention my name[00:01:25]
And that in itself is some sort of fame[00:01:28]
Come by for a drink we're having a game[00:01:32]
Wherever I go I'm glad that I came[00:01:36]
The talk is quite gay the company's fine[00:01:42]
There's laughter and lights and glamour and wine[00:01:46]
And have some young man and summer's and mine but often my eyes see a different shine[00:01:51]
Are the apple trees sunlit memories where the hammock swung[00:02:07]
On our backs sweet lie looking at the sky till the stars were strung[00:02:29]
Only last july when the world was young[00:02:46]
Just a dream ago when the world was young[00:02:57]
