Old Shep - Hank Snow[00:00:00]
Now when I was a lad [00:00:07]
And old Shep was a pup [00:00:10]
Over hills and meadows we'd stray [00:00:14]
Just a boy and his dog [00:00:20]
We were both full of fun [00:00:23]
We grew up together that way [00:00:26]
I remember the time at the old swimmin' hole [00:00:33]
When I would have drowned beyond doubt [00:00:39]
But old Shep was right there [00:00:46]
To the rescue he came [00:00:49]
He jumped in and then pulled me out [00:00:52]
As the years roll long [00:00:59]
And old Shep he grew old [00:01:02]
His eyes were fast growing dim [00:01:05]
And one day the doctor looked at me and said [00:01:12]
I can do no more for your dog [00:01:18]
So with trembling hands [00:01:24]
I picked up my gun [00:01:28]
And aimed it at Shep's faithful head [00:01:31]
But I just couldn't do it [00:01:37]
I wanted to run [00:01:41]
I wish they would shoot me instead [00:01:44]
So I threw down my little gun [00:01:50]
Then he run to my side [00:01:53]
And laid his old head right on my knee [00:01:56]
My friend I had struck the best gun that a man ever had [00:02:02]
I even cried so I scarcely could see [00:02:10]
Now Old Shep he knew he was going to go [00:02:17]
'Cause he reached down and lift my head [00:02:22]
Then looked but me [00:02:30]
Just mine to say [00:02:32]
I hate to but you understand [00:02:36]
Now Shep gone[00:02:42]
Where the good doggies go [00:02:46]
And no more with old Shep will I roam [00:02:49]
But if dogs have a heaven [00:02:55]
There's one thing I know [00:02:58]
Old Shep has a wonderful home[00:03:01]
