Hiawatha's Vision - Johnny Cash[00:00:00]
On the shores of Gitchgoomy by the shining big sea water[00:00:23]
Hiawatha old and greyin' listened to the older prophet listened to lagu[00:00:28]
And the young men and the women from the land of Ojibways[00:00:34]
From the land of the Dakotas from the woodlands and the prairies[00:00:38]
Stood and listened to the prophet heard lagu tell Hiawatha[00:00:42]
I have seen he said a water bigger that the big sea water[00:00:46]
Broader than the Gitchgoomy bitter so that none cold drink it[00:00:51]
Salty so that none would use it[00:00:55]
Hiawatha then spoke to them stopped all their jeering and their jesting[00:00:59]
And he spoke to all the people[00:01:03]
It's true what lagu tells you for I have seen it in a vision[00:01:06]
I have also seen the water to the East to the land of morning[00:01:11]
And upon this great water came a strange canoe with pinions[00:01:16]
Bigger than a grove of pine trees taller than the tallest tree tops[00:01:21]
And upon this great canoe were sails to carry it swiftly[00:01:26]
And it carried many people strange and foreign were these people[00:01:31]
And white were all their faces and with hair their chins were covered[00:01:36]
Then said Hiawatha I beheld a darker vision[00:01:42]
Many hundreds came behind them pushed their way across our prairies[00:01:46]
In our woodlands rang their axes in our valleys smoked their cities[00:01:51]
Our people were all scattered all forgetful of our councils[00:01:56]
Left their homelands going westward wild and woeful[00:02:00]
And the man with bearded faces the men with skin so fair[00:02:05]
With their barking sticks of thunder drove the remnants of our people[00:02:10]
Farther westward westward westward then wild wild and wilder[00:02:15]
Grew the West that once was ours[00:02:21]
