Old Shep - Red Foley/Henry Whitter/Clayton McMichen[00:00:00]
Written by:Clyde J. Foley/Arthur Willis[00:00:01]
When I was a lad[00:00:07]
And old Shep was a pup[00:00:09]
Over hills and meadows we'd stray[00:00:13]
Just a boy and his dog[00:00:19]
We were both full of fun[00:00:22]
We grew up together that way[00:00:25]
I remember the time at the old swimming hold[00:00:32]
When I would have drowned beyond doubt[00:00:38]
Shep was right there[00:00:44]
To the rescue he came[00:00:47]
He jumped in and helped pull me out[00:00:51]
So the years sped along and at last he grew old[00:00:57]
His eyesight was fast growing dim[00:01:03]
Then one day the doctor looked at me and said[00:01:09]
I can't do no more for him Jim[00:01:16]
With a hand that was trembling[00:01:22]
I picked up my gun[00:01:25]
I aimed it at Shep's faithful head[00:01:28]
I just couldn't do it[00:01:35]
I wanted to run[00:01:38]
And I wished that they'd shoot me instead[00:01:41]
I went to his side and I sat on the ground[00:01:47]
He laid his head on my knee[00:01:54]
I stroked the best pal that a man ever found[00:02:00]
I cried so I scarcely could see[00:02:06]
Old Sheppie he knew he was going to go[00:02:12]
For he reached out and licked at my hand[00:02:19]
He looked up at me[00:02:25]
Just as much as to say[00:02:28]
We're parting but you understand[00:02:31]
Now old Shep is gone where the good doggies go[00:02:38]
And no more with old Shep will I roam[00:02:44]
But if dogs have a heaven[00:02:51]
There's one thing I know[00:02:54]
Old Shep has a wonderful home[00:02:57]
