An Emigrant's Daughter - WordHarmonic[00:00:00]
Oh please ne'er forget me[00:00:19]
Though waves now lie o'er me[00:00:22]
I was once young and[00:00:26]
Pretty and my spirit ran free[00:00:29]
But destiny tore me from[00:00:34]
Country and loved ones[00:00:39]
And from the new land[00:00:42]
I was never to see[00:00:46]
A poor emigrant's daughter[00:00:50]
Too frightened to know[00:00:53]
I was leaving forever[00:00:57]
The land of my soul[00:01:02]
Amid struggle and fear[00:01:05]
My parents did pray[00:01:09]
To place courage to leave[00:01:13]
O'er the longing to stay[00:01:16]
They spoke of a new land[00:01:25]
Far away 'cross the sea[00:01:28]
And of peace and good fortune[00:01:32]
For my brothers and me[00:01:36]
So we parted from townland[00:01:40]
With much weeping and pain[00:01:44]
'Kissed the loved ones and[00:01:48]
The friends we would ne'er see again[00:01:50]
The vessel was crowded[00:01:55]
With disquieted folk[00:01:59]
The escape from past hardship[00:02:03]
Sustaining their hope[00:02:07]
But as the last glimpse of[00:02:11]
Ireland faded into the mist[00:02:14]
Each one fought back tears[00:02:19]
And felt strangely alone[00:02:22]
The seas roared in anger[00:02:30]
Making desperate our plight[00:02:34]
And a fever came o'er me[00:02:38]
That worsened next night[00:02:42]
Then delirium possessed[00:02:46]
Me and clouded my mind[00:02:49]
And I for a moment saw[00:02:53]
That land left behind[00:02:58]
I could hear in the distance[00:03:01]
My dear mother's wailing[00:03:05]
And the prayers of three[00:03:09]
Brothers that I'd see no more[00:03:13]
And I felt father's tears[00:03:17]
As he begged for forgiveness[00:03:21]
For seeking a new life on[00:03:24]
The still distant shore[00:03:28]
Oh please ne'er forget me[00:03:49]
Though waves now lie o'er me[00:03:54]
I was once young and pretty[00:03:59]
And my spirit ran free[00:04:04]
But destiny tore me from[00:04:08]
Country and loved ones[00:04:13]
And from the new land[00:04:17]
I was never to see[00:04:22]
