Tom was born in 1942[00:00:00]
With eyes of blue[00:00:02]
And the doctors said that his birth was far too fast[00:00:04]
His heart stopped twice[00:00:12]
But yet he survived[00:00:13]
As he took his first breathe[00:00:14]
His mother took her last[00:00:15]
And his father knew that he wasn't to blame[00:00:22]
But he never quite looked at Tom the same after that[00:00:25]
And he rarely spoke about her[00:00:33]
But when he did[00:00:35]
He said your mother used to say this[00:00:37]
"When the skies are looking bad my dear[00:00:43]
And your heart has lost all it's hope[00:00:46]
After dawn there will be sunshine[00:00:49]
And all the dust will go[00:00:51]
Skies will clear my darling[00:00:54]
I'll wake up with the one I love the most[00:00:57]
And in the morning I'll make you up[00:00:59]
With some tea and toast"[00:01:04]
When we met through a friend[00:01:10]
Who introduced them[00:01:12]
The first thing Tom said was would you like to dance [00:01:13]
They moved with each other and when the music got slower[00:01:21]
He said don't let go of my hand[00:01:25]
He said It's only polite if I ask you tonight[00:01:31]
Would it be alright if I could walk you home [00:01:34]
That night he told of of his birth[00:01:42]
And said when it hurt[00:01:44]
He thought about what his mother said about tea and toast[00:01:45]
Two quick years went by[00:01:53]
They were side by side[00:01:55]
And without a plan they conceived a little child[00:01:58]
He said women I love you and this you know[00:02:03]
But I only have enough for our food and clothes[00:02:06]
But I love you and this baby[00:02:09]
Until the day that I die[00:02:10]
She said we'll take care of this little life[00:02:14]
And we'll fall in love with her baby blue eyes[00:02:17]
And we'll be alright from some advice that I know[00:02:20]
She said I never got to meet her[00:02:25]
But if I did I'm sure your mother would have said this[00:02:27]
"When the skies are looking bad my dear[00:02:36]
And your heart has lost all it's hope[00:02:38]
After dawn there will be sunshine[00:02:41]
And all the dust will go[00:02:43]
Skies will clear my darling[00:02:46]
We'll show this baby all the love we know[00:02:49]
And in the morning I'll make you up[00:02:51]
With some tea and toast"[00:02:55]
Well he took those words[00:03:02]
And he made them proud[00:03:03]
He worked day after day[00:03:05]
And hour after hour[00:03:06]
So that they could buy a little house on the outside of town[00:03:07]
The little girl grew up and so did they[00:03:13]
They said that they loved each other everyday[00:03:15]
And forty years later that brings us to now[00:03:18]
And as they're walking down the street[00:03:23]
Her grip loosens on his hand[00:03:25]
He puts his arm around her side as she falls to the ground[00:03:26]
He hears her breathing and that's the only sound[00:03:29]
Her body on the floor attracts a worried crowd[00:03:34]
Tears rolls off his face as he says "don't let go now"[00:03:36]
And he's sitting by her bed in the hospital ward[00:03:45]
Their daughter walks in with a family of her own[00:03:47]
She says "dad I don't know if she can hear you now[00:03:55]
But there's one thing mum would want you to know"[00:03:58]
When the skies are looking bad my dear[00:04:06]
And your heart has lost all it's hope[00:04:09]
After dawn there will be sunshine[00:04:11]
And all the dust will go[00:04:14]
Skies will clear my darling[00:04:17]
Now it's time for you to let go[00:04:19]
I go wake you up in the mornin' with some tea and toast[00:04:22]
