Mama's Opry - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band[00:00:00]
She grew up plain and simple in a farming town[00:00:07]
Her daddy played the fiddle and used to do the calling[00:00:14]
When they had hoedowns[00:00:17]
She says the neighbors would come and[00:00:20]
They'd move all my grandma's furniture 'round[00:00:22]
And there'd be twenty or more there on the old wooden floor[00:00:26]
Dancin' to a country sound[00:00:30]
The Carters and Jimmy Rodgers played her favourite songs[00:00:34]
And on Saturday nights there was a radio show[00:00:40]
And she would sing along[00:00:43]
And I'll never forget her face when she revealed to me[00:00:46]
That she'd dreamed about singing at The Grand Ol' Opry[00:00:53]
Her eyes oh how they sparkled when she sang those songs[00:01:00]
While she was hanging the clothes on the line[00:01:06]
I was a kid just a hummin' along[00:01:09]
Well I'd be playing in the grass to her[00:01:12]
What might've seemed obliviously[00:01:15]
But there ain't no doubt about it[00:01:19]
She sure made her mark on me[00:01:23]
An' she played old gospel records on the phonograph[00:01:26]
She turned them up loud and we'd sing along[00:01:33]
But those days have passed[00:01:36]
Just now that I am older it occurs to me[00:01:39]
That I was singing in the grandest opry[00:01:46]
And we sang Sweet Rose of Sharon Abide With Me[00:01:52]
'Til I ride The Gospel Ship to Heaven's Jubilee[00:01:59]
And In That Great Triumphant Morning my soul will be free[00:02:06]
And My Burdens Will Be Lifted[00:02:13]
When my Saviour's face I see[00:02:16]
So I Don't Want to Get Adjusted to This World below[00:02:19]
But I know He'll Pilot Me 'til it comes time to go[00:02:26]
Oh nothing on this earth is half as dear to me[00:02:33]
As the sound of my Mama's Opry[00:02:40]
And we sang Sweet Rose of Sharon Abide With Me[00:03:13]
'Til I ride The Gospel Ship to Heaven's Jubilee[00:03:20]
And In That Great Triumphant Morning my soul will be free[00:03:26]
And My Burdens Will Be Lifted when my Saviour's face I see[00:03:33]
So I Don't Want to Get Adjusted to This World below[00:03:40]
But I know He'll Pilot Me 'til it comes time to go[00:03:47]
Oh nothing on this earth is half as dear to me[00:03:53]
As the sound of my Mama's Opry[00:04:00]
