That's Showbiz - Reverend Horton Heat[00:00:02]
Written by:Jim Heath/James C. Heath[00:00:03]
You work 689 days in a row[00:00:16]
6 shows a day[00:00:18]
15 Minute breaks[00:00:20]
Is that showbiz[00:00:22]
No matter how bad you feel[00:00:32]
You could have a fever and the dry heaves[00:00:36]
From that left handed cigarette[00:00:38]
And shot of old crow you did[00:00:39]
Between the first and secon show[00:00:41]
You could have a social disease you caught[00:00:45]
From some platinum blonde bombshell in Boise[00:00:47]
You could feel bad because you lost your wallet[00:00:53]
Your dog[00:00:56]
Your best friend[00:00:58]
Or even your wife[00:00:59]
And no matter how bad you feel[00:01:02]
When those house lights go down[00:01:04]
A smile lights up your face[00:01:07]
Why[00:01:09]
'Cause that's showbiz[00:01:11]
You work practice woodshed[00:01:21]
Suffer for your craft[00:01:23]
Do the old soft shoe till your feet bleed[00:01:27]
Sing mammy till your throat swells[00:01:31]
All the while smiling though your face hurts[00:01:32]
You do this for ten years[00:01:38]
And the day after the back page of[00:01:39]
Some local rag says your great[00:01:41]
You see somebody better[00:01:45]
And younger than yourself[00:01:47]
And he closes the show with a gag he stole from you[00:01:50]
And that's showbiz[00:01:56]
You reward[00:02:06]
A fast car you never get to drive[00:02:08]
Ex wives and kids who do interviews with the scandal sheets[00:02:13]
A long cool broad who loves you for your name[00:02:20]
And your name only[00:02:22]
This afternoon's pizza backstage of some dive[00:02:26]
You've played a hundred times before[00:02:29]
Where rats the size of a loaf of bread climb[00:02:32]
The walls and run the pipes[00:02:34]
Where the same drunk crudely delivers[00:02:37]
The same insults that you counter[00:02:39]
The same way every night[00:02:41]
Except time your delivery is a little different[00:02:45]
And the people laugh[00:02:48]
That's showbiz[00:02:51]
Your up for the part of leading man[00:03:01]
In a full length feature film[00:03:03]
And after you read you get a part[00:03:07]
One lousy line in a scene[00:03:11]
Where you play the school janitor[00:03:13]
So you say you're line with all the pizzaz[00:03:19]
And intensity of a Bogey[00:03:21]
Or an Edward G[00:03:23]
And that's showbiz[00:03:27]
So I say to all the little people[00:03:37]
Who spit shined and polished[00:03:39]
My long and jagged trail to the top[00:03:40]
Thank you[00:03:44]
For without you the little people[00:03:48]
I would not be where I am today[00:03:52]
It is truly you who are[00:03:55]
Showbiz[00:03:58]
Come on[00:04:06]
Give youself a round of applause[00:04:06]
The little people[00:04:08]
Give it up[00:04:09]
Yeah[00:04:10]
Please look for me in a new TV mini series drama[00:04:11]
Where I portray myself in the story of my life[00:04:14]
Simply entitled[00:04:17]
That's Showbiz[00:04:18]
Thank you[00:04:20]
You've been a wonderful audience[00:04:20]
I love you and remember[00:04:21]
That's showbiz[00:04:23]
Good night[00:04:24]
