The Great Dust Storm (Dust Storm Disaster) - Woody Guthrie[00:00:00]
On the 14th day of April of 1935 [00:00:03]
There struck the worst of dust storms that ever filled the sky [00:00:10]
You could see that dust storm comin' the cloud looked deathlike black [00:00:17]
And through our mighty nation it left a dreadful track [00:00:24]
From Oklahoma City to the Arizona line [00:00:31]
Dakota and Nebraska to the lazy Rio Grande [00:00:37]
It fell across our city like a curtain of black rolled down [00:00:44]
We thought it was our judgement we thought it was our doom [00:00:51]
The radio reported we listened with alarm [00:00:58]
The wild and windy actions of this great mysterious storm;[00:01:05]
From Albuquerque and Clovis and all New Mexico [00:01:11]
They said it was the blackest that ever they had saw [00:01:18]
From old Dodge City Kansas the dust had rung their knell [00:01:25]
And a few more comrades sleeping on top of old Boot Hill [00:01:32]
From Denver Colorado they said it blew so strong [00:01:39]
They thought that they could hold out but they didn't know how long [00:01:45]
Our relatives were huddled into their oil boom shacks [00:01:52]
And the children they was cryin' as it whistled through the cracks [00:01:59]
And the family it was crowded into their little room [00:02:06]
They thought the world had ended and they thought it was their doom [00:02:12]
The storm took place at sundown it lasted through the night [00:02:20]
When we looked out next morning we saw a terrible sight [00:02:26]
We saw outside our window where wheat fields they had grown[00:02:33]
Was now a rippling ocean of dust the wind had blown [00:02:40]
It covered up our fences it covered up our barns [00:02:47]
It covered up our tractors in this wild and dusty storm [00:02:54]
We loaded our jalopies and piled our families in [00:03:01]
We rattled down that highway to never come back again[00:03:08]
