Six String Orchestra - Harry Chapin[00:00:00]
The very day I purchased it[00:00:14]
I christened my guitar[00:00:17]
As my monophonic symphony[00:00:20]
Six string orchestra[00:00:23]
In my room I'd practice late[00:00:26]
They'd leave me alone[00:00:28]
My mother said you're nothing yet[00:00:31]
To make the folks write home[00:00:34]
I'd play at all the talent nights[00:00:38]
I'd finish they'd applaud[00:00:41]
Some called it muffled laughter[00:00:44]
I just figured they were odd[00:00:47]
So I went up for an encore[00:00:49]
But they screamed they'd had enough[00:00:52]
Or maybe I just need a group[00:00:55]
To help me do my stuff[00:00:58]
And so I'd dream a bass will join me[00:01:02]
And fill the bottom in and maybe now some lead guitar[00:01:05]
So it would not sound so thin[00:01:11]
I need some drums to set the beat[00:01:14]
And help me keep in time[00:01:17]
And way back in the distance[00:01:20]
Some strings would sound so fine[00:01:22]
And we would play together[00:01:27]
Like fine musicians should[00:01:29]
And it would sound like music[00:01:32]
And the music would sound good[00:01:35]
But in real life I'm stuck with[00:01:38]
That same old formula[00:01:41]
Me and my monophonic symphony[00:01:44]
Six string orchestra[00:01:46]
Oh I write love songs for my favorite girl[00:01:59]
And sing them soft and slow[00:02:02]
But before I get to finish[00:02:05]
She says she has to go[00:02:07]
She's nice and says excuse me[00:02:10]
I've got to find a bar[00:02:13]
I think I need refreshment[00:02:16]
For I hear you play guitar[00:02:18]
Oh I sent a demo tape I made[00:02:23]
To the record companies[00:02:26]
Two came back address unknown[00:02:29]
One came back COD[00:02:31]
Of course I got form letters[00:02:34]
All saying pleasant things[00:02:37]
Like suggesting I should find a trade[00:02:40]
Where I would not have to sing[00:02:43]
And so I'd dream a bass will join me[00:02:46]
And fill the bottom in[00:02:50]
And maybe now some lead guitar[00:02:53]
So it would not sound so thin[00:02:55]
I need some drums to set the beat[00:02:58]
And help me keep in time[00:03:01]
And way back in the distance[00:03:04]
Some strings would sound so fine[00:03:07]
And we would play together[00:03:11]
Like fine musicians should[00:03:14]
And it would sound like music[00:03:16]
And the music would sound good[00:03:19]
But in real life I'm stuck with[00:03:23]
That same old formula[00:03:25]
Me and my monophonic symphony[00:03:28]
Six string orchestra[00:03:31]
Do your finger is[00:03:37]
Be apart there clyten[00:03:42]
I've been taking guitar lessons[00:03:46]
But my teacher just took leave[00:03:48]
It was something about a break down[00:03:51]
Or needing a reprieve[00:03:54]
I know I found my future[00:03:56]
So I will persevere[00:04:00]
And hold onto my dream of[00:04:02]
Making music to their ears[00:04:05]
And so I'd dream a bass will join me[00:04:09]
And fill the bottom in[00:04:12]
And maybe now some lead guitar[00:04:15]
So it would not sound so thin[00:04:17]
I need some drums to set the beat[00:04:20]
And help me keep in time[00:04:23]
And way back in the distance[00:04:26]
Some strings would sound so fine[00:04:29]
I need the help you can get[00:04:31]
And we wouldn't play together[00:04:33]
Like fine musicians should[00:04:36]
And it would sound like music[00:04:38]
And the music would sound good[00:04:41]
But in real life I'm stuck with[00:04:44]
That same old formula[00:04:47]
Me and my monophonic symphony[00:04:49]
Six string orchestra[00:04:53]
Things are they[00:05:05]
Someday I'm gonna be a star[00:05:11]
