The Little Grave - George Hamilton IV[00:00:00]
One winter's Eve[00:00:09]
Went to walking out beyond the city gate[00:00:12]
For to fetch a fresh young pheasant[00:00:19]
For my darling's dinner plate[00:00:24]
It was snowing oh so quietly[00:00:31]
And the woods were wide and soft[00:00:36]
Just the sound of snowflakes falling[00:00:41]
And the footsteps as I walked[00:00:45]
There I saw a fresh young pheasant[00:00:53]
And I shot and killed him there[00:00:58]
And I heard a distant church bell[00:01:05]
As the bird fell from the air[00:01:10]
As I held his dying body the[00:01:18]
Strangest thought came over me[00:01:23]
God had made this little body that[00:01:27]
I had killed so faultlessly[00:01:32]
All the woods were dark and shadowed[00:01:39]
With the light the cold stars gave[00:01:44]
Sent a prayer to God in heaven[00:01:52]
And covered up the little grave[00:01:57]
And covered up the little grave[00:02:04]
