Second Handed Flowers - Tom T. Hall[00:00:00]
I was working in Miami for a day or two[00:00:10]
I decided I'd look up a girl[00:00:17]
That I once knew[00:00:21]
I bought some flowers[00:00:25]
And went to see a girl I used to know[00:00:27]
The lady at her door said[00:00:32]
She had married long ago[00:00:35]
Times will change and towns will[00:00:41]
Change there I was alone[00:00:44]
And suddenly I wondered,[00:00:48]
Would Susie be at home?[00:00:50]
So, with the flowers in my hand,[00:00:56]
I walked toward her gate[00:01:00]
Someone touched me on the arm and said,[00:01:03]
“You'll have to wait”[00:01:07]
Then I noticed there were[00:01:12]
People standing in line[00:01:15]
And some of them were holding pretty flowers,[00:01:19]
Just like mine[00:01:23]
They explained that Susie had been[00:01:27]
In an awful crash[00:01:31]
Doctors said that she had just[00:01:34]
A little while to last[00:01:37]
When I walked into her room,[00:01:51]
I felt a sense of shame[00:01:55]
But I heard Susie whisper,[00:01:58]
"I'm awfully glad you came"[00:02:01]
She had been the girl[00:02:05]
That I had always gone to see[00:02:09]
When someone that I cared[00:02:13]
For had been untrue to me[00:02:16]
I handed her the flowers[00:02:22]
And she gently kissed my hand[00:02:25]
She said, “Don't be embarrassed,[00:02:29]
You know I understand”[00:02:32]
I said, “Goodbye” and as I bent[00:02:37]
To kiss her fevered brow[00:02:41]
I heard her whisper,[00:02:44]
"Thank you for the second handed flowers"[00:02:46]
