A Picture from Life's Other Side - Woody Guthrie/Pete Seeger[00:00:00]
Written by:Guthrie[00:00:02]
In the world's mighty gallery of pictures[00:00:03]
There's scenes that're painted from life[00:00:07]
Scenes of youth and of beauty[00:00:12]
Scenes of hardship and strife[00:00:16]
Scenes of wealth and of plenty[00:00:20]
Old age and a blushing young bride[00:00:23]
Hang on the wall but the saddest of all[00:00:28]
Is the pictures from life's other side[00:00:32]
A picture from life's other side[00:00:36]
Somebody has fell by the way[00:00:40]
And a life has gone out with the tide[00:00:45]
That might have been happy some day[00:00:48]
There's a poor old mother at home[00:00:53]
She's watching and waiting alone[00:00:57]
Longing to hear from a loved one so dear[00:01:01]
Just a picture from life's other side[00:01:05]
Now the first scene is one of two brothers[00:01:12]
Their parents lost all of his money at play[00:01:16]
One lived in luxury and riches[00:01:20]
And the other went beg for his bread[00:01:24]
One night they met on the highway[00:01:28]
Your money or lives sir they cried[00:01:33]
Then with his knife took his own brother life[00:01:36]
That's a picture from life's other side[00:01:41]
Now the next scene is that by the river[00:01:46]
A heartbroken mother and babe[00:01:50]
In the harbor lights shine and they shiver[00:01:54]
Outcast soon no one will save[00:01:59]
Once she was a true woman[00:02:02]
Somebody's darling and pride[00:02:07]
God help her she leaps there's no one to weep[00:02:11]
That's a picture from life's other side[00:02:15]
That's a picture from life's other side[00:02:19]
Somebody has fell by the way[00:02:23]
And a life has gone out with the tide[00:02:27]
That might have been happy some day[00:02:31]
Some poor mother at home[00:02:35]
Watching and waiting alone[00:02:39]
Longing to hear from a loved one so dear[00:02:43]
That's a picture from life's other side[00:02:47]
