Come Comet or Dove - Devon Sproule[00:00:00]
The heat had set in as the summer began[00:00:09]
I had just ceased to sing winter sore tune[00:00:13]
And rested my arm on the forgotten farmer[00:00:17]
Of all that I can call my fortune[00:00:22]
Fall broke the beak of the small bird that beat[00:00:35]
In his breast and out through his heels[00:00:39]
And I heart sunk to think of it's stammering wing[00:00:43]
Beneath heavy and relentless wheels[00:00:47]
I pulled up in the evening while he was still sleeping[00:01:08]
Out jumped I and ran cross his floor[00:01:12]
And there he lay white and a guardian darling[00:01:17]
Caught up in slumber and I caught at his door[00:01:21]
He blushes therefore he is guilty cried I[00:01:25]
Of some private reverie grand so I took him[00:01:30]
And shook him and made to unhook him[00:01:34]
By squeezing and slapping his hand[00:01:38]
The slow work of a blank book hung where we met[00:01:44]
And he slept in the depths of his bed[00:01:50]
And I oh kissed the sweat from his head[00:01:55]
Right or wrong to him alone I come to be fed[00:01:59]
I said come back to me love come comet or dove[00:02:07]
To my garden come bladed or bled[00:02:12]
