Tubby The Tuba - Danny Kaye/Victor Young Concert Orchestra[00:00:00]
Written by:George Kleinsinger[00:00:00]
Once upon a time there was an orchestra[00:00:00]
Which was all busy tuning up[00:00:03]
First the oboe gave his a to the strings[00:00:05]
Then to the woodwinds and to the brass[00:00:08]
Up and around the scales they raced halter skater[00:00:13]
Faster and faster[00:00:15]
All but tubby the tuba he was a fat little tuba[00:00:20]
Puffing away but oh so slow[00:00:25]
Oh what lovely music thought tubby and he sighed[00:00:32]
Here what's the matter said peepo the piccolo[00:00:39]
Oh said tubby every time we do a new piece[00:00:47]
You all get such pretty melodies to play[00:00:50]
And I never never a pretty melody[00:00:52]
But people never write pretty melodies for tubas it just isn't done[00:00:56]
Shhh there's the conductor[00:01:01]
First the violins danced their lovely little tune on their strings[00:01:03]
Then they cried to the flute catch[00:01:10]
Got it cried the flute[00:01:14]
My turn tooted the trumpet[00:01:19]
And the rest joined in[00:01:28]
The cello then the oboe and the bassoon[00:01:31]
While tubby went oompah oompah oompah oompah[00:01:51]
Catch me cried the little tune catch me[00:01:54]
Hmhmhmhm I got you cried tubby[00:02:00]
Oh you're sitting on me said the little tune[00:02:04]
Poor tubby picked up the flat little tune[00:02:08]
And tried to squeeze it back into shape[00:02:10]
You clumsy fool snapped the violins[00:02:13]
I'm sorry Mr fiddle said tubby[00:02:17]
Fiddle fiddle indeed[00:02:20]
And the violins quivered with great indignation[00:02:22]
You will please address us as violins fiddles indeed[00:02:27]
Tubby said the conductor tubby what is the matter[00:02:32]
Please sir I thought it would be so nice to dance[00:02:38]
With the pretty little tune instead of just going oompah oompah all the time[00:02:41]
Dance laughed the violins dance well really[00:02:47]
The french horn quietly put his hand to his mouth and smiled[00:02:52]
And the whole orchestra began to laugh[00:02:55]
Stop it cried the conductor stop it I say tubby[00:03:02]
Please sir I wasn't laughing rehearsal was over[00:03:07]
Tubby was walking home with pipo the piccolo[00:03:15]
Please peepo said tubby I just feel so bad[00:03:23]
I don't think I want any company[00:03:27]
I understand said peepo good night[00:03:30]
Good night said tubby[00:03:33]
The moon was out and tubby went to the river and[00:03:36]
Sat on a log and he looked at himself in the water[00:03:39]
Alone am I me and I together if I went away[00:03:44]
From me how unhappy I would be me and I oh my[00:03:58]
The trees whispered in the wind and the waterfalls tinkled[00:04:15]
Suddenly a big bullfrog hopped out of the water[00:04:23]
And sat on the rock beside him[00:04:26]
Lovely evening I said lovely evening I said beautiful evening hello hello hello[00:04:32]
But tubby just sat[00:04:47]
Oh well said the frog oh well if I'm not wanted[00:04:50]
Oh cried tubby please Mr frog come back I didn't mean to be impolite[00:04:54]
Back hopped the frog oh that's all right[00:04:59]
I'm used to it no one pays any attention to me either[00:05:03]

The next day the orchestra was busy tuning up[00:06:22]
For the rehearsal and buzzing with excitement[00:06:24]
Over the arrival of the great new conductor signor pizzicato[00:06:25]
Here he comes called the french horn here comes signor pizzicato[00:06:33]
All right gentlemen let us begin[00:06:41]
And tubby began to play his own little melody[00:06:43]
Oh that wretched tuba snapped the violins he'll disgrace us[00:06:49]
The trombone stuck out his tongue blaahh and the trumpets snickered ahahahahah[00:06:54]
Tubby said signor pizzicato tubby I've never[00:07:00]
Heard a tuba play a melody before would you play the rest of it[00:07:02]
Oh said tubby[00:07:08]
Why how perfectly wonderful said the strings[00:07:23]
Please tubby may we sing your tune too[00:07:26]
How about me said the xylophone[00:07:41]
And me said the trombone[00:07:49]
May I said the cellist[00:07:57]
Here I come said peepo[00:08:04]
And they all played[00:08:11]
Well we've done it haven't we tubby it was the bullfrog sitting right beside him[00:08:38]
Oh thought tubby how happy I am[00:08:45]
