Right Field - Peter, Paul & Mary[00:00:01]
Saturday summers, when I was a kid[00:00:10]
We'd run to the schoolyard and here's what we did[00:00:14]
We'd pick out the captains and we'd choose up the teams[00:00:19]
It was always a measure of my self esteem[00:00:24]
'Cause the fastest, the strongest played shortstop and first[00:00:28]
The last ones they picked were the worst[00:00:33]
I never needed to ask, it was sealed[00:00:36]
I just took up my place in right field[00:00:41]
Playing right field, it's easy you know[00:00:49]
You can be awkward, you can be slow[00:00:55]
That's why I'm here in right field[00:01:00]
Just watching the dandelions grow[00:01:03]
Playing right field can be lonely and dull[00:01:05]
Little leagues never have lefties that pull[00:01:15]
I'd dream of the day they'd hit one my way[00:01:19]
They never did, but still I would pray[00:01:24]
That I'd make a fantastic catch on the run[00:01:28]
And not lose the ball in the sun[00:01:33]
And then I'd awake from this long reverie[00:01:37]
And pray that the ball never came out to me[00:01:42]
Here in right field, it's easy you know[00:01:47]
You can be awkward and you can be slow[00:01:51]
That's why I'm here in right field[00:01:55]
Just watching the dandelions grow[00:01:58]
Off in the distance the game's dragging on[00:02:31]
There's strikes on the batter, some runners are on[00:02:35]
I don't know the inning, I've forgotten the score[00:02:40]
The whole team is yelling and I don't know what for[00:02:44]
Then suddenly everyone's looking at me[00:02:48]
My mind has been wandering, "What could it be?"[00:02:52]
They point at the sky and I look up above[00:02:58]
And a baseball falls into my glove[00:03:02]
Here in right field, it's important you know[00:03:18]
You gotta know how to catch, you gotta know how to throw[00:03:23]
That's why I'm here in right field[00:03:28]
Just watching the dandelions grow[00:03:31]
