Sir William Gower (BBC Session - Folk On One 27/3/71) - Fairport Convention (公平港口大会)[00:00:00]
I am a sailor both stout and strong[00:00:26]
To a goodly vessel I do belong[00:00:33]
Well carved and anchored and well equipped[00:00:40]
Sir William Gower's was a very fine ship[00:00:47]
Our captain in his cabin lay[00:00:54]
When a dreadful voice to him did say[00:01:01]
"This night with me in the deep you'll be[00:01:08]
So prepare yourself and your company"[00:01:15]
The sky grew dark and the sea grew still[00:01:22]
Bold men were fearful and the air was chill[00:01:29]
Sir William rose to meet his men[00:01:36]
Saying "Hear me now for I'll not speak again"[00:01:43]
"I loved my mother when she was alive[00:01:50]
And to my sister I gave babies five[00:01:56]
I killed my wife and her children three[00:02:04]
So I now must face what's come for me"[00:02:11]
"You'll lash a timber onto my side[00:03:13]
And throw me out on the water wide[00:03:19]
And if I swim then let me be[00:03:27]
But if I sink then pray for me"[00:03:34]
So we tied his head and we tied his feet[00:03:41]
And around his middle a winding sheet[00:03:48]
At every knot the sea did stir[00:03:55]
Grew ready for the murderer[00:04:02]
And then we saw his open grave[00:04:09]
In the likeness of a single wave[00:04:16]
That swept our ship from her stern to her bow[00:04:23]
And bore away Sir William Gower[00:04:30]
