Bantry Bay - Shannon Singers[00:00:00]
As I'm sitting all alone in the gloaming,[00:00:12]
It might have been but yesterday.[00:00:17]
That we watched the fisher's sails all homing,[00:00:22]
Till the little herring fleet at anchor lay.[00:00:27]
Then the fisher girls with baskets swinging,[00:00:33]
Came running down the old stone way.[00:00:38]
Every lassie to her sailor lad was singing,[00:00:43]
Ah welcome back to Bantry Bay.[00:00:49]
Then we heard the pipers sweet note tuning,[00:01:05]
And all the lassies turned to hear.[00:01:10]
As they mingled with a soft voice crooning.[00:01:16]
Till the music floated down the wooden pier.[00:01:21]
Save you kindly, colleens all, said the piper[00:01:26]
Hands across and trip it while I play.[00:01:31]
And the tender sound of song and merry dancing,[00:01:37]
Stole softly over Bantry Bay.[00:01:42]
As I'm sitting all alone in the gloaming,[00:01:58]
The showdows of the past draw near.[00:02:04]
And I see the lovely faces round me[00:02:09]
That used to glad the old front pier.[00:02:14]
Some have gone upon their last logged homing,[00:02:19]
Some are left, but they are old and grey.[00:02:25]
And we're waiting for the tide in the gloaming.[00:02:30]
To sail upon the great highway.[00:02:35]
Called peacefully from Bantry Bay.[00:02:41]
