Carolina Drama (Acoustic Mix) - The Raconteurs[00:00:01]
Written by:Brendan Benson/Jack White[00:00:02]
I'm not sure if there's a point to this story[00:00:09]
But I'm going to tell it again[00:00:12]
So many other people try to tell the tale[00:00:17]
Not one of them knows the end[00:00:19]
It was a junk house in South Carolina[00:00:34]
Held a boy the age of ten[00:00:38]
Along with his older brother Billy[00:00:42]
And a mother and her boyfriend[00:00:45]
Who was a triple loser with some blue tattoos[00:00:48]
That were given to him when he was young[00:00:51]
And a drunk temper that was easy to lose[00:00:54]
And thank god he didn't own a gun[00:00:56]
Well Billy woke up in the back of his truck[00:01:06]
Took a minute to open his eyes[00:01:08]
He took a peep into the back of the house[00:01:13]
And found himself a big surprise[00:01:15]
He didn't see his brother but there was his mother[00:01:18]
With her red headed head in her hands[00:01:21]
While the boyfriend had his gloves wrapped around an old priest[00:01:24]
Trying to choke the man[00:01:27]
Billy looked up from the window to the truck[00:02:11]
Threw up and had to struggle to stand[00:02:14]
He saw that red necked bastard with a hammer[00:02:19]
Turn the priest into a shell of a man[00:02:21]
The priest was putting up the fight of his life[00:02:24]
But he was old and he was bound to lose[00:02:27]
The boyfriend hit as hard as he could[00:02:30]
And knocked the priest right down to his shoes[00:02:32]
Well now Billy knew but never actually met[00:02:41]
The preacher lying there in the room[00:02:44]
He heard himself say that must be my daddy[00:02:49]
Then he knew what he was gonna do[00:02:51]
Billy got up enough courage took it up[00:02:55]
And grabbed the first blunt thing he could find[00:02:57]
It was a cold glass bottle of milk[00:03:00]
That got delivered every morning at nine[00:03:03]
Billy broke in and saw the blood on the floor and[00:03:47]
He turned around and put the lock on the door[00:03:50]
He looked dead into the boyfriend's eye[00:03:52]
His mother was a ghost too upset to cry then[00:03:55]
He took a step toward the man on the ground[00:03:58]
From his mouth trickled out a little audible sound[00:04:00]
He heard the boyfriend shout get out[00:04:04]
And Billy said not till I know what this is all about[00:04:06]
Well this preacher here was attacking your mama[00:04:09]
But Billy knew just who was starting the drama[00:04:12]
So Billy took dead aim at his face[00:04:15]
And smashed the bottle on the man who left his dad in disgrace and[00:04:17]
The white milk dripped down with the blood and the[00:04:21]
Boyfriend fell down dead for good[00:04:24]
Right next to the preacher who was gasping for air[00:04:26]
And billy shouted daddy why'd you have to come back here[00:04:29]
His mama reached behind the sugar and honey and[00:04:32]
Pulled out an envelope filled with money[00:04:35]
Your daddy gave us this she collapsed in tears[00:04:38]
He's been paying all the bills for years[00:04:41]
Mama let's put this body underneath the trees[00:04:43]
And put daddy in the truck and head to Tennessee[00:04:46]
Just then his little brother came in[00:04:49]
Holding the milk man's hat and a bottle of gin singing[00:04:51]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:04:54]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:04:58]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:01]
La la la la la la[00:05:03]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:06]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:09]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:12]
La la la la la la[00:05:15]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:18]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:21]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:25]
La la la la la la la la yeah[00:05:28]
Well now you heard another side to the story[00:05:32]
But you wanna know how it ends[00:05:35]
If you must know the truth about the tale[00:05:40]
Go and ask the milkman[00:05:43]
