Was The Night - Ray Callcut/Lea Hart/Bruce Dickinson[00:00:00]
'Twas the night before Christmas[00:00:15]
When all through the house[00:00:17]
Not a creature was stirring[00:00:18]
Not even a mouse[00:00:20]
The stockings were hung by[00:00:22]
The chimney with care[00:00:24]
In hopes that St Nicholas[00:00:26]
Soon would be there[00:00:28]
The children were nestled[00:00:29]
All snug in their beds[00:00:31]
While visions of sugar plums[00:00:33]
Danced in their heads[00:00:34]
And mamma in her kerchief[00:00:40]
And I in my cap[00:00:41]
Had just settled down[00:00:43]
For a long winter's nap[00:00:44]
When out on the lawn[00:00:47]
There arose such a clatter[00:00:48]
I sprang from the bed to see[00:00:50]
What was the matter[00:00:52]
Away to the window[00:00:54]
I flew like a flash[00:00:55]
Tore open the shutters[00:00:57]
And threw up the sash[00:00:59]
The moon on the breast of[00:01:08]
The new fallen snow[00:01:09]
Gave the lustre of mid[00:01:11]
Day to objects below[00:01:13]
When what to my wondering[00:01:15]
Eyes should appear[00:01:16]
But a miniature sleigh[00:01:22]
And eight tiny reindeer[00:01:23]
With a little old driver[00:01:25]
So lively and quick[00:01:27]
I knew in a moment[00:01:29]
It must be St Nick[00:01:32]
More rapid than eagles[00:01:39]
His coursers they came[00:01:41]
And he whistled and shouted[00:01:43]
And called them by name[00:01:44]
Now Dasher now Dancer now Prancer and Vixen[00:01:46]
On Comet on cupid on Doner and Blitzen[00:01:49]
To the top of the porch[00:01:53]
To the top of the wall[00:01:55]
Now dash away dash away[00:01:57]
Dash away all[00:01:59]
As dry leaves that before[00:02:04]
The wild hurricane fly[00:02:05]
When they meet with an obstacle[00:02:07]
Mount to the sky[00:02:09]
So up to the house top[00:02:11]
The coursers they flew[00:02:13]
With the sleigh full of toys[00:02:14]
And St Nicholas too[00:02:16]
And then in a twinkling[00:02:18]
I heard on the roof[00:02:19]
The prancing and pawing[00:02:21]
Of each little hoof[00:02:23]
As I drew in my hand[00:02:25]
And was turning around[00:02:26]
Down the chimney St Nicholas[00:02:28]
Came with a bound[00:02:30]
He was dressed all in fur[00:02:39]
From his head to his foot[00:02:40]
And his clothes were all[00:02:42]
Tarnished with ashes and soot[00:02:43]
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back[00:02:46]
And he looked like a peddler[00:02:49]
Just opening his pack[00:02:51]
His eyes how they twinkled[00:02:53]
His dimples how merry[00:02:54]
His cheeks were like roses[00:02:57]
His nose like a cherry[00:02:58]
His droll little mouth[00:03:04]
Was drawn up like a bow[00:03:05]
And the beard of his chin[00:03:07]
Was as white as the snow[00:03:08]
The stump of a pipe[00:03:10]
He held tight in his teeth[00:03:12]
And the smoke it encircled[00:03:14]
His head like a wreath[00:03:15]
He had a broad face[00:03:17]
And a little round belly[00:03:19]
That shook when he laughed[00:03:21]
Like a bowlful of jelly[00:03:22]
He was chubby and plump[00:03:31]
A right jolly old elf[00:03:33]
And I laughed when I saw him[00:03:35]
In spite of myself[00:03:37]
A wink of his eye[00:03:38]
And a twist of his head[00:03:41]
Soon gave me to know[00:03:45]
I had nothing to dread[00:03:47]
He spoke not a word[00:03:49]
But went straight to his work[00:03:50]
And filled all the stockings[00:03:52]
Then turned with a jerk[00:03:55]
And laying his finger[00:04:00]
Aside of his nose[00:04:01]
And giving a nod[00:04:03]
Up the chimney he rose[00:04:04]
He sprang to his sleigh[00:04:06]
To his team gave a whistle[00:04:09]
And away they all flew[00:04:13]
Like the down of a thistle[00:04:15]
But I heard him exclaim[00:04:17]
Here he drove out of sight[00:04:19]
Happy Christmas to all[00:04:20]
And to all a good night[00:04:23]
