第12期青春励志(12)

第12期青春励志(12)-英语听力[00:00:00]

Dream Will Come True [00:00:06]

The first day of school [00:00:09]

one of my classmates began a talk [00:00:10]

with me that changed my life. [00:00:12]

She said, "Hi, handsome. [00:00:15]

My name is Rose. [00:00:17]

I'm eighty-seven years old." [00:00:18]

"Why are you in college at such an age?" [00:00:20]

I asked. [00:00:24]

"I always dreamed of having a college education [00:00:25]

and now I'm getting one," [00:00:28]

she told me. [00:00:30]

After class we walked to the student union building [00:00:32]

and shared a chocolate milkshake. [00:00:35]

We became instant friends. [00:00:37]

At the end of the semester we invited Rose [00:00:40]

to speak at our football banquet [00:00:43]

and I'll never forget what she taught us. [00:00:45]

She cleared her throat and began: [00:00:48]

"We do not stop playing because we are old; [00:00:50]

we grow old because we stop playing. [00:00:54]

There are only four secrets to staying young, [00:00:56]

being happy and achieving success. [00:01:00]

You have to laugh and find humor each and every day. [00:01:03]

You've got to have a dream. [00:01:07]

When you lose your dreams, you die. [00:01:09]

We have so many people walking around [00:01:12]

who are dead and they don't even know it. [00:01:14]

There is a giant difference [00:01:18]

between growing older and growing up. [00:01:20]

If you are nineteen years old [00:01:23]

and lie in bed for one full year [00:01:25]

and don't do one productive thing, [00:01:27]

you will turn twenty years old. [00:01:30]

If I am eighty-seven years old [00:01:33]

and stay in bed for a year [00:01:36]

and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. [00:01:37]

Anybody can grow older. [00:01:41]

That doesn't take any talent or ability. [00:01:43]

The idea is to grow up by always [00:01:47]

finding the opportunity in change. [00:01:50]

Have no regrets. [00:01:53]

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, [00:01:55]

but rather for things we did not do. [00:01:59]

The only people who fear death are those with regrets." [00:02:02]

She concluded her speech [00:02:06]

by courageously singing "The Rose." [00:02:08]

She challenged each of us [00:02:11]

to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. [00:02:13]

At year's end, [00:02:18]

Rose finished the college degree [00:02:20]

she had begun all those years ago. [00:02:22]

One week after graduation Rose died [00:02:24]

peacefully in her sleep. [00:02:27]

Over two thousand college students [00:02:29]

attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman [00:02:31]

who taught by example [00:02:34]

that it's never too late to be [00:02:36]

all you can possibly be.[00:02:38]
