The Legend Of Wooley Swamp - THE CHARLIE DANIELS BAND[00:00:00]
If you ever go back into Wooly Swamp son you better not go at night[00:00:19]
There's things out there in the middle of them woods[00:00:23]
That'd make a strong man die from fright[00:00:26]
There's things that crawl and things that fly[00:00:28]
And things that creep around on the ground[00:00:30]
And they say the ghost of Lucias Clay gets up and it walks around[00:00:33]
But I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself[00:00:37]
And I couldn't conceive it I never would listen to nobody else[00:00:42]
No I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself[00:00:47]
That there's some things in this world you just can't explain[00:00:52]
The old man lived in the Wooly Swamp way back in the gurgling woods[00:01:00]
And he never did do a lot of harm in the world[00:01:03]
But he never did do no good[00:01:07]
People didn't think too much of him[00:01:09]
They all thought he acted funny[00:01:11]
The old man didn't care about people anyway[00:01:13]
All he cared about was his money[00:01:16]
He'd stuff it all down in Mason jars and bury it all around[00:01:18]
But on certain nights if the moon was right[00:01:23]
He'd dig it up out of the ground[00:01:25]
He'd pour it all out on the floor of his shack[00:01:27]
And run his fingers through it[00:01:30]
Old Lucias Clay was a greedy old man[00:01:32]
And that's all there ever was to it[00:01:34]
But I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself[00:01:41]
And I couldn't conceive it I never would listen to nobody else[00:01:45]
No I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself[00:01:51]
That there's some things in this world you just can't explain[00:01:56]
The Crayton boys were white trash they lived over on Parvis Creek[00:02:04]
They were a real snake and sneaky as a cat[00:02:08]
And belligerent when they'd speak[00:02:11]
One night the oldest brother said ya'll meet in the Wooly Swamp later[00:02:13]
We'll get old Lucias' money and we'll pitch him to the alligators[00:02:17]
They found the old man out in the back with a shovel in his hand[00:02:22]
And thirteen rusty Mason jars he just dug up out of the sand[00:02:26]
And they all went crazy and they beat the old man[00:02:31]
Then they picked him up off the ground[00:02:34]
Then they threw him in the swamp and they stood there and laughed[00:02:36]
Till the black water sucked him down[00:02:39]
Then they turned around and went back to the shack[00:02:41]
And they picked up the money and ran[00:02:43]
But they hadn't gone nowhere when they realized[00:02:45]
They were running in quicksand[00:02:47]
And they struggled and screamed but they couldn't get away[00:02:50]
Then just before they were gone[00:02:52]
They could hear that old man laughing[00:02:55]
In a voice that was loud and strong[00:02:57]
Now that's been fifty years ago an' if you go back by there again[00:02:59]
There's a spot in the yard in back of that shack[00:03:04]
Where the ground is always wet[00:03:07]
And on certain nights if the moon is right[00:03:09]
And you're down by the dark footpath[00:03:11]
You can hear three young men screaming[00:03:13]
And you can hear that old man laugh[00:03:16]
If you ever go back into Wooly Swamp son you better not go at night[00:03:19]
There's things out there in the middle of them woods[00:03:23]
That'd make a strong man die from fright[00:03:25]
There's things that crawl and things that fly[00:03:27]
And things that creep around on the ground[00:03:30]
And they say the ghost of Lucias Clay gets up and it walks around[00:03:32]
But I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself[00:03:37]
And I couldn't conceive it I never would listen to nobody else[00:03:41]
No I couldn't believe it I just had to find out for myself[00:03:46]
That there's some things in this world you just can't explain[00:03:52]
