Phil the Fluters Ball - Peter Dawson[00:00:00]
Have you heard of Phil the Fluther of the town of Ballymuck[00:00:06]
The times were going hard with him in fact the man was broke[00:00:09]
So he just sent out a notice to his neighbours one an all[00:00:11]
As to how he'd like their company that evening at a ball[00:00:14]
And when writing out he was careful to suggest to them[00:00:17]
That if they found a hat of his convenient to the dure[00:00:20]
The more they put in whenever he requested them[00:00:23]
The better would the music be for batthering the flure[00:00:25]
With the toot of the flute And the twiddle of the fiddle O[00:00:28]
Hopping in the middle like a herring on the griddle O[00:00:31]
Up down hands around crossing to the wall[00:00:34]
Oh hadn't we the gaiety at Phil the fluther's ball[00:00:36]
There was Misther Denis Dogherty who kept the running dog[00:00:44]
There was little crooked Paddy from the Tiraloughett bog[00:00:47]
There was boys from every Barony and girls from every art[00:00:50]
And the beautiful Miss Bradys in a private a** and cart[00:00:53]
And along with them came the bouncing Mrs Cafferty[00:00:56]
Little Micky Mulligan was also to the fore[00:00:59]
Rose Suzanne and Margaret O'Rafferty[00:01:01]
The flower of Ardmagullion and the pride of Pethravore[00:01:04]
With the toot of the flute And the twiddle of the fiddle O[00:01:07]
Hopping in the middle like a herring on the griddle O[00:01:10]
Up down hands around crossing to the wall[00:01:12]
Oh hadn't we the gaiety at Phil the fluther's ball[00:01:15]
First little Micky Mulligan got up to show them how[00:01:23]
And then the Widda' Cafferty steps out and makes her bow[00:01:26]
I could dance you off[00:01:28]
Your legs sez her as sure as you are born[00:01:30]
If you'll only make the piper play[00:01:32]
The hare was in the corn[00:01:33]
So Phil plays up to the best of his ability[00:01:34]
The lady and the gentleman began to do their share[00:01:37]
Faith then Mick it's you that has agility[00:01:40]
Begorra Mrs Cafferty yer lepping like a hare[00:01:43]
With the toot of the flute And the twiddle of the fiddle O[00:01:46]
Hopping in the middle like a herring on the griddle O[00:01:48]
Up down hands around crossing to the wall[00:01:51]
Oh hadn't we the gaiety at Phil the fluther's ball[00:01:54]
Then Phil the Fluther tipped a wink to little Crooked Pat[00:02:02]
I think it's nearly time sez he for passing round the hat[00:02:05]
So Paddy pass'd the caubeen round and looking mighty cute[00:02:08]
Sez You've got to pay the piper when he toothers on the flute[00:02:10]
Then all joined in wid the greatest joviality[00:02:13]
Covering the buckle and the shuffle and the cut[00:02:16]
Jigs were danced of the very finest quality[00:02:19]
But the Widda' bet the company at handling the fut[00:02:22]
With the toot of the flute And the twiddle of the fiddle O[00:02:24]
Hopping in the middle like a herring on the griddle O[00:02:27]
Up down hands around crossing to the wall[00:02:30]
Oh hadn't we the gaiety at Phil the fluther's ball[00:02:33]
