Old Shep - Wilf Carter[00:00:00]
Written by:Foley/Clyde J./Willis/Arthur[00:00:01]
When I was a lad and old shep was a pup[00:00:03]
Over hills and meadows we'd stray[00:00:09]
Just a boy and his dog we were both full of fun[00:00:14]
We grew up together that way[00:00:20]
I remember the time at the old swimmin' hold[00:00:26]
When I would have drowned beyond doubt[00:00:32]
Shep was right there to the rescue he came[00:00:38]
He jumped in and helped pulled me out[00:00:43]
Now the years they rolled by and at last he grew old[00:00:49]
His eyes were fast growing dim[00:00:55]
And one day the doctor looked at me and said[00:01:01]
I can do no more for him Jim[00:01:07]
With hands that were trembling I picked up my gun[00:01:13]
And aimed it at shep's faithful head[00:01:19]
I just couldn't do it I wanted to run[00:01:25]
I wish they would shoot me instead[00:01:30]
I went to his side and sat on the ground[00:01:36]
He laid his head on my knee[00:01:42]
I stroked the best pal that a man ever found[00:01:48]
I cried so I scarcely could see[00:01:54]
Old sheppie he knew he was goin' to go[00:02:00]
For he reached out and licked at my hand[00:02:06]
He looked up at me just as much as to say[00:02:12]
We're partin' but you understand[00:02:18]
Now old shep he has gone where the good doggies go[00:02:24]
And no more with old shep will I roam[00:02:30]
But if dogs have a heaven there's one thing I know[00:02:36]
Old shep has a wonderful home[00:02:42]
