Old Sam (Sam, Pick Oop Tha' Musket) - Stanley Holloway[00:00:00]
Written by:Holloway[00:00:02]
It occurred on the evening before Waterloo[00:00:08]
As troops were lined up on parade[00:00:12]
And sergeant inspecting them he were a terror[00:00:15]
Of whom every man were afraid[00:00:18]
All excepting one man[00:00:21]
Who was in the front rank[00:00:23]
A man by the name of Sam small[00:00:25]
And he and the sergeant were both daggers drawn[00:00:29]
They thought now of each other at all[00:00:34]
As sergeant walked past he was swinging his arms[00:00:37]
And he happened to brush against Sam[00:00:41]
And knocking this musket clean out of is hand[00:00:44]
It fell in the ground with a slam[00:00:47]
Pick it up said sergeant abrupt like but cool[00:00:51]
But Sam with a shake of this head[00:00:56]
Said seeing as that knocked it out of my hand[00:00:59]
Perhaps tha'll pick the thing up instead[00:01:03]
Sam Sam pick up that musket[00:01:08]
The sergeant exclaimed with a roar[00:01:12]
Sam said that knocked it down reasoning[00:01:15]
Tha'll pick it up or it stays where this on the floor[00:01:18]
The sound high words very soon reached[00:01:24]
The ears of an officer Lieutenant Bird[00:01:27]
Who says to the sergeant[00:01:31]
Now what's all this there[00:01:33]
And the sergeant told what had occurred[00:01:36]
Sam Sam pick up the musket[00:01:39]
Lieutenant exclaimed with some heat[00:01:45]
Sam says he knocked it down reasoning he picks it up[00:01:49]
Or it stays where it is at my feet[00:01:54]
It caused quite a stir when the Captain arrived[00:01:57]
To find out the 'cause of the trouble[00:02:01]
And every man there all excepting old Sam[00:02:04]
Was full of excitement and bubble[00:02:08]
Sam Sam pick up the musket[00:02:12]
Said Captain for strictness renowned[00:02:17]
Sam says he knocked it down reasoning he picks it up[00:02:21]
Or it stays where it is on the ground[00:02:25]
The same thing occurred when the Major and Colonel[00:02:29]
Both tried to get Sam to see sense[00:02:33]
But when old Duke of Wellington came into view[00:02:37]
Well then the excitement was tense[00:02:41]
Up rode the Duke on a lovely white horse[00:02:45]
To find out the 'cause of the bother[00:02:51]
He looked at the musket and then at old Sam[00:02:56]
And he talked to old Sam like a brother[00:03:00]
Sam Sam pick up the musket the Duke[00:03:04]
Said as quiet as could be[00:03:10]
Sam Sam Sam Sam pick up the musket[00:03:14]
Come on lead just to please me[00:03:21]
All right Duke says old Sam just for thee I'll oblige[00:03:27]
And to show thee I meant no offence[00:03:33]
So Sam picked it up gradely lead said the Duke[00:03:36]
Righto boys let battle commence[00:03:43]
