The Story of the First Christmas

The Story of the First Christmas - Perry Como[00:00:00]

Hi boys and girls i am Perry Como[00:00:11]

And I'd like to tell you the most wonderful[00:00:14]

Story in the whole world[00:00:16]

The Story of the First Christmas[00:00:19]

Now suppose you make believe[00:00:23]

This is many many years ago[00:00:24]

A long time before you were born[00:00:26]

You're standing on a hillside[00:00:28]

Near a little town in Palestine[00:00:30]

Do you see the man in the distance[00:00:33]

Walking slowly leading a donkey[00:00:34]

His name is Joseph[00:00:37]

And riding on the donkey is Mary[00:00:40]

They've come a long long way[00:00:42]

And they're heading for a little[00:00:44]

Town near the hillside[00:00:46]

On which we're standing[00:00:46]

Something very special will happen[00:00:48]

In this little town tonight[00:00:51]

For this is the little town of Bethlehem[00:00:53]

Oh little town of Bethlehem[00:00:57]

How still we see thee lie[00:01:09]

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep[00:01:15]

The silent stars go by[00:01:22]

Yet in thy dark streets shineth[00:01:29]

The everlasting light[00:01:35]

The hopes and fears of all the years[00:01:41]

Are met in thee tonight[00:01:49]

Let's follow Joseph and Mary[00:02:02]

Nto the town of Bethlehem[00:02:03]

It's getting dark and all of[00:02:05]

The rooms at the Inn are taken[00:02:07]

So they could spend the night at a stable[00:02:09]

Now I told you something special was[00:02:12]

Gonna happen and it did[00:02:14]

A baby boy is born to Mary[00:02:17]

They call him Jesus[00:02:20]

They have no baby's crib so[00:02:23]

Mary puts little Jesus to sleep[00:02:25]

In the soft sweet hay of a manger[00:02:27]

Come come come to the manger[00:02:31]

Little Lord Jesus is born on this day[00:02:35]

Jesus is asleep in the manger[00:02:43]

So let's tiptoe out to the[00:02:46]

Hillside near Bethlehem[00:02:48]

Where the Shepherds are tending their flock[00:02:49]

All at once the Shepherds are frightened[00:02:51]

You'd be frightened too[00:02:53]

Because a great light[00:02:54]

Suddenly shines in the sky[00:02:55]

Even the animals are hushed and still[00:02:58]

But then you hear the voice of an Angel of the Lord[00:03:06]

And you're no longer frightened[00:03:09]

For the Angel brings good news[00:03:12]

News of a Saviour born this day[00:03:15]

News of Christ the Lord[00:03:18]

The First Noel the Angels did say[00:03:21]

Was to certain poor Shepherds[00:03:28]

In fields as they lay[00:03:32]

Noel Noel Noel Noel[00:03:35]

Born is the King of Israel[00:03:42]

Now boys and girls[00:04:00]

Now you believe[00:04:01]

Well we're still with the Shepherds[00:04:03]

On the hillside near Bethlehem[00:04:04]

The Shepherds ask the Angel[00:04:07]

Where to find the Christ-child[00:04:09]

And the Angel tells them to go to the manger[00:04:11]

And as they leave[00:04:14]

The sky is filled with other Angels singing[00:04:15]

Glory to God And on Earth Peace Goodwill to Men[00:04:18]

The Shepherds hurry to the manger[00:04:26]

Fall on their knees before the baby[00:04:28]

And they worship him[00:04:30]

For He is Christ the Lord[00:04:32]

Oh Come all ye faithful[00:04:36]

Joyful and triumphant[00:04:40]

Oh Come ye Oh Come ye to Bethlehem[00:04:44]

Come and behold Him[00:04:54]

Born the King of Angels[00:04:58]

Oh Come let us adore Him[00:05:03]

Oh Come let us adore Him[00:05:07]

Oh Come let us adore Him[00:05:12]

Christ the Lord[00:05:18]

And now look up into the sky[00:05:26]

Do you see that bright star[00:05:29]

Twinkling in the heavens[00:05:30]

Far away three men are[00:05:32]

Looking at that star just as we are[00:05:33]

They're riding on camels[00:05:36]

And they're using the star[00:05:37]

As a guide to lead them to the Christ-child[00:05:39]

Who are these three men who follow the star[00:05:42]

Let's find out[00:05:46]

We Three Kings of Orient are[00:05:48]

Bearing gifts we traverse afar[00:05:52]

Field and fountain moor and mountain[00:05:55]

Following yonder star[00:06:00]

That's right boys and girls[00:06:08]

Yes the three men[00:06:09]

On the camels are the three wise men[00:06:10]

The new star guides them straight to Bethlehem[00:06:13]

To a little baby lying in a manger[00:06:16]

There the three wise men present[00:06:20]

Gifts to the Christ-child[00:06:21]

The first Christmas gifts ever given to anyone[00:06:24]

A gift of gold of frankincense and of Mir[00:06:26]

The wise man follw the wothingtone[00:06:32]

And now a great peace settles on the night[00:06:35]

For it is the Holy Night[00:06:37]

Silent night holy night[00:06:44]

All is calm all is bright[00:06:53]

'Round yon virgin mother and child[00:07:02]

Holy infant so tender and mild[00:07:12]

Sleep in heavenly peace[00:07:21]

Sleep in heavenly peace[00:07:31]

When we celebrate Christmas[00:07:42]

We think of Bethlehem[00:07:43]

The Virgin Mary[00:07:45]

The three wise men[00:07:47]

And the birth of the Christ-child[00:07:49]

The First Christmas[00:07:52]

Oh Come let us adore Him[00:07:54]

Christ the Lord[00:08:00]
