Sir William Gower(Live) - Fairport Convention [00:00:01]
I am a sailor both stout and strong[00:00:27]
To a goodly vessel I do belong[00:00:33]
Well carved and anchored and well equipped[00:00:40]
Sir William Gower's was a very fine ship[00:00:47]
Our captain in his cabin lay[00:00:54]
When a dreadful voice to him did say[00:01:00]
This night with me in the deep you'll be[00:01:07]
So prepare yourself and your company[00:01:13]
The sky grew dark and the sea grew still[00:01:20]
Bold men were fearful and the air was chill[00:01:27]
Sir William rose to meet his men[00:01:34]
Saying hear me now for I'll not speak again[00:01:40]
I loved my mother when she was alive[00:01:47]
And to my sister I gave babies five[00:01:54]
I killed my wife and her children three[00:02:01]
So I now must face what's come for me[00:02:07]
You'll lash a timber onto my side[00:03:07]
And throw me out on the water wide[00:03:13]
And if I swim then let me be[00:03:21]
But if I sink then pray for me[00:03:27]
So we tied his head and we tied his feet[00:03:34]
And around his middle a winding sheet[00:03:41]
At every knot the sea did stir[00:03:48]
Grew ready for the murderer[00:03:55]
And then we saw his open grave[00:04:02]
In the likeness of a single wave[00:04:08]
That swept our ship from her stern to her bow[00:04:15]
And bore away Sir William Gower[00:04:22]
