Rebel Jesus - Kate & Anna McGarrigle[00:00:00]
All the streets are[00:00:21]
Filled with laughter and light[00:00:23]
And the music of the season[00:00:25]
And the merchants windows are all bright[00:00:29]
With the faces of the children[00:00:34]
And the families hurrying to their homes[00:00:38]
As the sky darkens and freezes[00:00:42]
Will be gathering[00:00:46]
Around the hearths and tables[00:00:48]
Giving thanks for God's graces[00:00:50]
And the birth of the rebel Jesus[00:00:56]
They call him by the prince of peace[00:01:03]
And they call Him by the Savior[00:01:07]
And they pray to Him upon the seas[00:01:11]
And in every bold endeavor[00:01:15]
And they fill His churches[00:01:19]
With their pride and gold[00:01:21]
As their faith in Him increases[00:01:23]
But they've turned the nature[00:01:27]
That I worship in[00:01:30]
From a temple to a robber's den[00:01:32]
In the words of the rebel Jesus[00:01:38]
We guard our world with locks and guns[00:02:03]
And we guard our fine possessions[00:02:07]
And once a year when Christmas comes[00:02:11]
We give to our relations[00:02:15]
And perhaps we give a little to the poor[00:02:19]
If the generosity should seize us[00:02:24]
And if any one of us should interfere[00:02:28]
In the business of why there are poor[00:02:32]
They get the same as the rebel Jesus[00:02:38]
But please forgive me if I've seemed[00:02:45]
To take the tone of judgment[00:02:49]
For I've no reason to come between[00:02:53]
This day and your enjoyment[00:02:57]
In this life of hardship fill the earthly toil[00:03:01]
We have a need for anything that frees us[00:03:05]
So I bid you pleasure and I bid you cheer[00:03:09]
From a heathen and a pagan[00:03:13]
On the side of the rebel Jesus[00:03:20]
In this life of hardship fill the earthly toil[00:03:40]
They have a need for anything that frees us[00:03:44]
So I bid you pleasure and I bid you cheer[00:03:48]
From a heathen and a pagan[00:03:53]
On the side of the rebel Jesus[00:03:59]
