Ragged Old Flag (background music - Shenandoah) (arr. M. Brown and F. Ticheli) - Michael Dudley/United States Army Chorus/United States Army Band[00:00:00]
I walked through a county courthouse square[00:00:45]
On a park bench an old man was sitting there[00:00:48]
I said Your old courthouse is kinda run down[00:00:53]
He said Naw it'll do for our little town[00:00:58]
I said Your flagpole has leaned a little bit[00:01:04]
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it[00:01:08]
He said Have a seat and I sat down[00:01:13]
And he said[00:01:18]
Is this the first time you've been to our little town[00:01:19]
I said I think it is He said I don't like to brag[00:01:24]
But we're kind proud of that Ragged Old Flag[00:01:29]
You see we got a little hole in that flag there when[00:01:35]
Washington took it across the Delaware[00:01:38]
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key[00:01:42]
Sat watching it writing Say Can You See[00:01:46]
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans[00:01:51]
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seems[00:01:54]
And it almost fell at the Alamo[00:01:59]
Beside the Texas flag but she waved on though[00:02:02]
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville[00:02:08]
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill[00:02:13]
There was Robert E Lee Beauregard and Bragg[00:02:17]
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag[00:02:22]
On Flanders Field in World War I[00:02:29]
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun[00:02:32]
She turned blood red in World War II[00:02:36]
She hung limp and low the time war II[00:02:40]
She was in Korea and Vietnam[00:02:45]
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam[00:02:48]
Native American is brown yellow and white[00:02:52]
All ships red blood for the stars and straves[00:02:56]
In her own good land here she's been abused[00:03:02]
She's been burned dishonored denied[00:03:06]
And refused[00:03:10]
And the government for which she stands[00:03:13]
Has benn scandle lies and for an ialand[00:03:15]
And she's getting threadbare and she's wearing thin[00:03:20]
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in[00:03:25]
'Cause she's been through the fire before[00:03:29]
And I believe she can take a whole lot more[00:03:33]
So we raise her up every morning[00:03:37]
Take her Down every night[00:03:39]
We don't let her touch the ground and we fold[00:03:42]
Her up right[00:03:46]
On second thought I do like to brag[00:03:48]
'Cause I'm mighty proud of the Ragged Old Flag[00:03:52]
Everynight Everynight my love[00:03:57]
