Andromeda - Heather Styka[00:00:00]
When I was very young[00:00:15]
My parents bought a lake[00:00:19]
It was more of a marshy pond in the middle of nowhere[00:00:22]
But it was our pond each year we returned in summer[00:00:29]
When Tyler's ice cream shop reopened in town[00:00:35]
Now Tyler's closed his doors and retired to Florida[00:00:44]
I'm at the water's edge at the end of October[00:00:50]
It seems wilder now[00:00:58]
With the trees all barren branching out[00:01:01]
Like dark nets into a cold blue sky[00:01:04]
The water is so calm[00:01:26]
Everything's reflected[00:01:30]
Reflecting all the years that have passed by[00:01:33]
I used to sit on this pier and look into the depths[00:01:40]
Like it was a crystal ball[00:01:46]
That could show me destiny[00:01:50]
Our rowboat was a raft[00:01:53]
All patched and filled with air[00:01:56]
I preferred to stay back on the shore[00:02:00]
Each sunken log meant danger and it always made me nervous[00:02:06]
To let anyone else control the oars[00:02:13]
At night the pier was where I learned my first constellation[00:02:35]
Andromeda was the galaxy closest to our own[00:02:42]
Perseus' prize Cassiopeia's daughter[00:02:49]
She must have wondered too[00:02:55]
What her fate was on her own[00:02:58]
I've never seen the lake[00:03:17]
This calm so settled[00:03:21]
Comparing it to glass[00:03:24]
Couldn't begin to describe[00:03:27]
But a knowledge in me waits[00:03:31]
And reminds me that those depths[00:03:34]
Are murky as ever[00:03:38]
Churning deep inside[00:03:42]
