The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota - Weird Al Yankovic[00:00:01]
Well, I had two weeks of vacation time coming[00:00:08]
After working all year down at Big Roy's Eating And Plumbing[00:00:10]
So one night when my family the I were gathered 'round the dinner table[00:00:12]
I said, "Kids, if you could go anywhere in this great big world, now[00:00:19]
Where'd you like to go ta"[00:00:25]
They said, "Dad, we wanna see the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota"[00:00:27]
They picked the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:00:33]
So the very next day we loaded up the car[00:00:41]
With potato skins and pickled weiners,[00:00:43]
Crossword puzzles, Spider-Man comics, and mama's home made rhubarb pie[00:00:46]
Pulled out of the driveway and the neighbors, they all waved good-bye[00:00:51]
And so began our three day journey[00:00:56]
We picked up a guy holding a sign that said "twine ball or bust"[00:00:59]
He smelled real bad and he said his name was Bernie[00:01:05]
I put in a Slim Whitman tape, my wife put on a brand new hair net[00:01:10]
Kids were in the back seat jumping up and down,[00:01:15]
Yelling "Are we there yet?"[00:01:18]
And all of us were joined together in one common thought[00:01:19]
As we rolled down the long and winding interstate in our '53 DeSoto[00:01:22]
We're gonna see the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:01:31]
We're headin' for the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:01:34]
Oh, we couldn't wait to get there[00:01:43]
So we drove straight through for three whole days and nights[00:01:45]
Of course, we stopped for more pickled weiners now and then[00:01:49]
The scenery was just so pretty, boy I wish the kids could've seen it[00:01:53]
But you can't see out of the side of the car[00:01:59]
Because the windows are completely covered[00:02:01]
With the decals of all the place where we've already been[00:02:03]
There's Elvis-O-Rama, the Tupperware Museum,[00:02:07]
The Boll Weevil Monument, and Cranberry World,[00:02:09]
The Shuffleboard Hall Of Fame, Poodle Dog Rock,[00:02:12]
And The Mecca of Albino Squirrels[00:02:14]
We've been to ghost towns, theme parks, wax museums,[00:02:17]
And a place where you can drive through the middle of a tree[00:02:19]
We've seen alligator farms and tarantula ranches,[00:02:22]
But there's still one thing we gotta see[00:02:24]
Well, we crossed the state line about 6:39[00:02:26]
And we saw a sign that said "Twine Ball exit - 50 miles"[00:02:28]
Oh, the kids were so happy the started singing[00:02:33]
"99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall" for the 27th time that day[00:02:35]
So, we pulled off the road at the last chance gas station[00:02:40]
Got a few more pickled weiners and a diet chocolate soda[00:02:43]
On our way to see the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:02:46]
We're gonna see the biggest ball of tiwne in Minnesota[00:02:51]
Finally, at 7:37 early Wednesday evening as the sun was setting[00:03:00]
In the Minnesota sky[00:03:04]
Out in the distance, on the horizon, it appeared to me like a vision[00:03:10]
Before my unbelieving eye[00:03:14]
I parked the car and walked with awe-filled reverence towards that[00:03:19]
Glorius huge majestic sphere[00:03:23]
I was just so overwhelmed by its sheer imensity,[00:03:25]
I had to pop myself a beer[00:03:29]
Yes, on these hallowed grounds, open ten to eight on weekdays,[00:03:38]
In a little shrine under a make-shift pagoda,[00:03:43]
There sits the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:03:47]
I tell you, it's the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:03:50]
Oh, what on earth would make a man decide to do that kind of thing?[00:04:00]
Oh, windin' up twenty-one thousand, one hundred forty pounds of string[00:04:09]
What was he trying to prove, who was he trying to impress[00:04:16]
Why did he build it, how did he do, it was anybody's guess[00:04:22]
Where did he get the twine, what was goin' through his mind[00:04:28]
Did it just seem like a good idea at the time[00:04:33]
Well, we walked up beside it and I warned the kids[00:04:38]
"Now, you better not touch it, those ropes are there for a reason"[00:04:40]
I said, "Maybe if you're good, I'll tie it to the back of our car[00:04:45]
And we can take it home", but I was only teasin'[00:04:48]
Then we went to the gift shop and stood in line[00:04:52]
Bought a souvineer miniature ball of twine, some window decals,[00:04:54]
And anything else they'd sell us[00:04:57]
And we bought a couple post cards, "Greetings from the twine ball,[00:05:00]
Wish you were here"[00:05:04]
Won't the folks back home be jealous[00:05:05]
I gave our camera to Bernie and we stood by the ball and we all gathered[00:05:09]
Round and said, "Cheese"[00:05:12]
The Bernie ran away with my brand new Insti-Matic,[00:05:14]
But at least we got our memories[00:05:16]
Then we all just stared at the ball for a while and my eyes got moist,[00:05:18]
But I said with a smile, "Kids, this here's what America's all about"[00:05:22]
Then I started feelin' kinda gooey inside and I fell on my knees[00:05:28]
And I cried and cried[00:05:32]
And that's when those security guards threw us out[00:05:33]
You know, I bet if we unravelled that sucker,[00:05:37]
It'd roll all the way down to Fargo, North Dakota[00:05:40]
'Cause it's the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:05:43]
I'm talkin' 'bout the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:05:47]
Well, we stayed that night at the Twine Ball Inn[00:05:57]
In the morning we were on our way home again[00:05:59]
But we really didn't want to leave, that was perfectly clear[00:06:02]
I said, "Folks, I can tell you're all sad to go"[00:06:06]
Then I winked my eye and I said, "You know, I got a funny kind of feelin'[00:06:09]
We'll be comin' back again next year"[00:06:13]
'Cause I've been all around this great big world[00:06:16]
And I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather go to[00:06:18]
Than the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:06:21]
I said the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota[00:06:27]
Minnesota[00:06:30]
Minnesota[00:06:35]
Minnesota[00:06:37]
