You brave young sons of Erin's Isle[00:00:00]
I hope you will attend awhile[00:00:04]
'Tis the wrongs of dear old Ireland I am going to relate[00:00:09]
'Twas black and cursed was the day[00:00:18]
When our parliament was taken away[00:00:22]
And all of our griefs and sufferings commences from that day[00:00:27]
For our hardy sons and daughters fair[00:00:35]
To other countries must repair[00:00:40]
And leave their native land behind in sorrow to deplore[00:00:45]
Fo seek employment they must roam[00:00:54]
Far far away from the native home[00:00:59]
From that sore oppressed island that they call the shamrock shore[00:01:04]
Now Ireland is with plenty blessed[00:01:14]
But the people we are sore oppressed[00:01:18]
All by those cursed tyrants we are forced for to obey[00:01:23]
Some haughty landlords for to please[00:01:32]
Our houses and our lands they'll seize[00:01:36]
To put fifty farms into one and take us all away[00:01:41]
Regardless of the widow's sighs[00:01:50]
The mother's tears and orphan's cries[00:01:55]
In thousands we were driven from home which grieves my heart full sore[00:02:01]
We were forced by famine and disease[00:02:09]
To emigrate across the seas[00:02:14]
From that sore opressed island that they called the shamrock shore[00:02:20]
Our sustenance all taken away[00:02:49]
The tithes and taxes for to pay[00:02:53]
To support that law-protected church to which they do adhere[00:02:58]
And our Irish gentry well you know[00:03:06]
To other countries they do go[00:03:10]
And the money from old Ireland they squandered here and there[00:03:15]
For if our squires would stay at home[00:03:23]
And not to other countries roam[00:03:29]
But to build mills and factories here to employ the laboring poor[00:03:34]
For if we had trade and commerce here[00:03:42]
To me no nation could compare[00:03:47]
To that sore oppressed island that they call the shamrock shore[00:03:52]
John Bull he boasts he laughs with scorn[00:04:01]
And he says that Irishman is born[00:04:06]
To be always discontented for at home we cannot agree[00:04:11]
But we'll banish the tyrants from our land[00:04:21]
And in harmony like sisters stand[00:04:25]
To demand the rights of Ireland let us all united be[00:04:29]
And our parliament in College Green[00:04:37]
For to assemble it will be seen[00:04:43]
And happy days in Erin's Isle we soon will have once more[00:04:48]
And dear old Ireland soon will be[00:04:56]
A great and glorious country[00:05:02]
And peace and blessings soon will smile all around the shamrock shore[00:05:07]
