Down Bound Train - Chuck Berry[00:00:00]
A stranger lying on a bar room floor[00:00:15]
Had drank so much he could drink no more[00:00:18]
And so he fell asleep with a troubled brain[00:00:22]
To dream that he rode on that down bound train[00:00:25]
The engine with blood was sweaty and damp[00:00:34]
And brilliantly lit with a brimstone lamp[00:00:37]
And imps for fuel were shoveling bones[00:00:40]
While the furnace rang with a thousand groans[00:00:44]
The boiler was filled with lager beer[00:00:52]
The devil himself was the engineer[00:00:55]
The passengers were most a Motley Crew[00:00:59]
Some were foreigners and others he knew[00:01:02]
Rich men in broadcloth beggars in rags[00:01:06]
Handsome young ladies and wicked old hags[00:01:09]
As the train rushed on at a terrible pace[00:01:33]
Sulphuric fumes scorched their hands and face[00:01:37]
Wider and wider the country grew[00:01:41]
Faster and faster the engine flew[00:01:44]
Louder and louder the thunder crashed[00:01:47]
Brighter and brighter the lighting flashed[00:01:51]
Hotter and hotter the air became[00:01:55]
Till their clothes were burned[00:01:58]
And they were screaming with pain[00:01:59]
Then out of the distance there came a yell[00:02:01]
Ha ha said the devil we're nearing home[00:02:05]
Oh how the passengers shrieked with pain[00:02:09]
And begged old Satan to stop that train[00:02:12]
The stranger awoke with an anguished cry[00:02:20]
His clothes wet with sweat and his hair standing high[00:02:24]
He fell on his knees on the bar room floor[00:02:27]
And prayed a prayer like never before[00:02:30]
And the prayers and vows were not in vain[00:02:42]
For he never rode that down bound train[00:02:47]
