in dormitory and personal security. [00:00:06]

First, a few points to bear in mind. [00:00:10]

You 'll notice the doors of your dorm have two types of locks: [00:00:15]

a Yale lock and a Chubb lock. [00:00:19]

Make sure you double lock your door, not just one lock, both [00:00:22]

of them, however long you 're going out for. [00:00:27]

Make sure when you go out, all the windows are closed. [00:00:31]

Those of you in the ground and first floor rooms will notice [00:00:36]

that you have locking windows. [00:00:39]

Make sure you use them. [00:00:42]

Lock them every time you go out. [00:00:44]

Lock them at night. [00:00:47]

If you've got expensive equipment in your room, first of all, [00:00:49]

insure it. [00:00:53]

So many people lose things and have not got insurance. [00:00:55]

Make sure you insure it. [00:00:59]

This brings me onto personal security. [00:01:03]

Wherever possible, avoid walking alone late at night, [00:01:07]

especially girl students. [00:01:12]

Avoid dark streets, and try to stick to the well lit streets [00:01:14]

whenever possible. [00:01:19]

Also, if you know you are going to be out late, make sure [00:01:21]

you 've got enough money for a taxi to get home again, [00:01:25]

or arrange to stay with friends for the night. [00:01:29]

It may sound absurd, but do not forget, the university actually [00:01:32]

offers free self defence classes. [00:01:37]

I hope it's something you 'd never have to use, but, um, it's [00:01:41]

certainly worth going along to a few self defence sessions. [00:01:44]
