A Poem on the Underground Wall (Album Version) - Simon & Garfunkel[00:00:02]
The last train is nearly due [00:00:13]
The underground is closing soon [00:00:15]
And in the dark deserted station [00:00:17]
Restless in anticipation [00:00:19]
A man waits in the shadows [00:00:21]
His restless eyes leap and scratch [00:00:27]
At all that they can touch or catch [00:00:29]
And hidden deep within his pocket [00:00:31]
Safe within it's silent socket [00:00:34]
He holds a colored crayon [00:00:36]
Now from the tunnel's stony womb [00:00:42]
The carriage rides to meet the groom [00:00:44]
And opens wide and welcome doors [00:00:46]
But he hesitates then withdraws[00:00:48]
Deeper in the shadows [00:00:51]
And the train is gone suddenly[00:00:58]
On wheels clicking silently[00:01:02]
Like a gently tapping litany [00:01:06]
And he holds his crayon rosary[00:01:09]
Tighter in his hand [00:01:12]
Now from his pocket quick he flashes [00:01:17]
The crayon on the wall he slashes [00:01:20]
Deep upon the advertising [00:01:22]
A single worded poem comprised[00:01:24]
Of four letters [00:01:26]
And his heart is laughing screaming pounding[00:01:30]
The poem across the tracks rebounding[00:01:32]
Shadowed by the exit light[00:01:34]
His legs take their ascending flight[00:01:36]
To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night[00:01:38]
