What are you reading, Bill? [00:00:00]
It's this week's New Scientist, Why? [00:00:01]
I was just wondering. It looks interesting. [00:00:04]
But I've never actually read it myself. [00:00:08]
It's for real scientists. [00:00:11]
Or can ordinary people like me understand it? [00:00:13]
Oh, it's for anyone really. [00:00:17]
It usually has articles and stories about current affairs, [00:00:19]
about science as well as papers about new developments in research. [00:00:23]
I am reading about a new telephone that allows you to see [00:00:28]
the person you're speaking to as well as hearing. [00:00:31]
Oh, I've heard about it. Is it on the market yet? [00:00:36]
Can I buy one? [00:00:40]
No, not this one. But the company has made other models to try out [00:00:41]
the business. [00:00:45]
This one is special because of its color, and the image is moving. [00:00:47]
OK, that's interesting. [00:00:51]
You see the first video phones, that's what they called, were [00:00:53]
made in Japan. [00:00:56]
But they can only show a still black-and-white image. [00:00:58]
So this video phone is much better than that. [00:01:01]
Mind you I am not sure I want one. Would you? [00:01:04]
Well, no. I don't think I would. I bet it costs a lot of money. [00:01:08]
Does it say how much it costs? [00:01:13]
Yes, the early black-and-white ones cost several hundred pounds. [00:01:15]
But the one that the story is about costs several thousand pounds. [00:01:19]
Mm, why does anybody want one, do you think? [00:01:24]
Business organizations that need to frequently contact overseas [00:01:28]
organizations would want it. [00:01:31]
It's like a face-to-face conversation, so maybe a lot of overseas [00:01:33]
travel can be avoided. [00:01:37]
Yes, I suppose so. [00:01:39]
