Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (1998 Digital Remaster) - Iron Maiden[00:00:00]
Written by:Steve Harris[00:00:02]
Hear the rime of the ancient mariner[00:00:17]
See his eye as he stops one of three[00:00:20]
Mesmerizes one of the wedding guests[00:00:22]
Stay here and listen to the nightmares of the sea[00:00:23]
And the music plays on as the bride passes by[00:00:30]
Caught by his spell and the mariner tells his tale[00:00:32]
Driven south to the land of the snow and ice[00:00:38]
To a place where nobody's been[00:00:40]
Through the snow fog flies on the albatross[00:00:43]
Hailed in God's name hoping good luck it brings[00:00:45]
And the ship sails on back to the north[00:00:51]
Through the fog and ice and the albatross follows on[00:00:53]
The mariner kills the bird of good omen[00:01:25]
His shipmates cry against what he's done[00:01:29]
But when the fog clears they justify him[00:01:33]
And make themselves a part of the crime[00:01:37]
Sailing on and on and north across the sea[00:01:41]
Sailing on and on and north 'til all is calm[00:01:49]
The albatross begins with it's vengeance[00:01:59]
A terrible curse a thirst has begun[00:02:03]
His shipmates blame bad luck on the mariner[00:02:07]
About his neck the dead bird is hung[00:02:11]
And the curse goes on and on and on at sea[00:02:15]
And the curse goes on and on for them and me[00:02:23]
Day after day day after day[00:02:32]
We stuck nor breath nor motion[00:02:34]
As idle as a painted ship upon a painted ocean[00:02:36]
Water water everywhere and[00:02:40]
All the boards did shrink[00:02:43]
Water water everywhere nor any drop to drink[00:02:45]
There calls the mariner[00:03:01]
There comes a ship over the line[00:03:03]
But how can she sail with no wind in her sails and no tide[00:03:07]
See onward she comes[00:03:13]
Onward she nears out of the sun[00:03:18]
See she has no crew[00:03:25]
She has no life wait but here's two[00:03:30]
Death and she life in death[00:03:37]
They throw their dice for the crew[00:03:38]
She wins the mariner and he belongs to her now[00:03:42]
Then crew one by one[00:03:48]
They drop down dead two hundred men[00:03:53]
She she life in death[00:04:00]
She let's him live her chosen one[00:04:05]
One after one by the star dogged moon[00:05:51]
Too quick for groan or sigh[00:05:55]
Each turned his face with a ghastly pang[00:05:58]
And cursed me with his eye[00:06:02]
Four times fifty living men[00:06:06]
And I heard nor sigh nor groan[00:06:09]
With heavy thump a lifeless lump[00:06:12]
They dropped down one by one[00:06:16]
The curse it lives on in their eyes[00:07:41]
The mariner he wished he'd die[00:07:46]
Along with the sea creatures[00:07:51]
But they lived on so did he[00:07:54]
And by the light of the moon[00:08:01]
He prays for their beauty not doom[00:08:05]
With heart he blesses them[00:08:11]
God's creatures all of them too[00:08:13]
Then the spell starts to break[00:08:21]
The albatross falls from his neck[00:08:25]
Sinks down like lead into the sea[00:08:30]
Then down in falls comes the rain[00:08:35]
Hear the groans of the long dead seamen[00:11:10]
See them stir and they start to rise[00:11:12]
Bodies lifted by good spirits[00:11:14]
None of them speak and they're lifeless in their eyes[00:11:16]
And revenge is still sought penance starts again[00:11:22]
Cast into a trance and the nightmare carries on[00:11:24]
Now the curse is finally lifted[00:11:31]
And the mariner sights his home[00:11:33]
Spirits go from the long dead bodies[00:11:35]
Form their own light and the mariner's left alone[00:11:37]
And then a boat came sailing towards him[00:12:09]
It was a joy he could not believe[00:12:14]
The pilot's boat his son and the hermit[00:12:18]
Penance of life will fall onto him[00:12:22]
And the ship it sinks like lead into the sea[00:12:26]
And the hermit shrives the mariner of his sins[00:12:34]
The mariner's bound to tell of his story[00:12:43]
To tell this tale wherever he goes[00:12:47]
To teach God's word by his own example[00:12:51]
That we must love all things that God made[00:12:56]
And the wedding guest's a sad and wiser man[00:12:59]
And the tale goes on and on and on and on[00:13:08]
