Old Doc Brown

Old Doc Brown - Johnny Cash (约翰尼·卡什)[00:00:00]

He was just an old country doctor in a little country town[00:00:06]

Fame and fortune had passed him by though we never saw him frown[00:00:10]

As day by day in his kindly way he'd serve us one and all[00:00:16]

Many a patient forgot to pay although Doc's fees were small[00:00:20]

Though he needed his dimes and there were times that he'd receive a fee[00:00:26]

He'd pass it onto some poor soul that needed it worse than he[00:00:30]

He had to sell his furniture couldn't pay his office rent[00:00:35]

So to a dusty room over a livery stable Doc brown and his satchel went[00:00:39]

And on the hitchin' post at the kerb below to advertise his wares[00:00:45]

He nailed a little sign that read Doc brown has moved upstairs[00:00:50]

And one day he didn't answer when they knocked upon his door[00:00:56]

Old Doc brown was layin' down but his soul was no more[00:01:00]

They found him there in that old black suit on his face was a smile[00:01:05]

Of content[00:01:09]

But all the money they could find on him was a quarter[00:01:11]

And a copper cent[00:01:14]

So they opened up his ledger and what they saw gave their hearts a pull[00:01:16]

Beside each debtor's name old Doc had write these words paid in full[00:01:22]

Old Doc should had a funeral fine enough for a king[00:01:29]

It's a ghastly joke our town was broke and no one could give a thing[00:01:33]

Cept jones an undertaker he did mighty well[00:01:38]

Donated an old iron casket he had never been able to sell[00:01:42]

And the funeral procession it wasn't much for grace and pomp and the style[00:01:45]

But those wagon loads of mourners they stretched out for more than a mile[00:01:51]

We wanted to give him a monument we kinda figured we owed him one[00:01:57]

Cause he made our town a better place for all the good he'd done[00:02:01]

We pulled up that old hitchin' post where Doc had nailed a sign[00:02:06]

We'd painted it white and to all of us it certainly did look fine[00:02:11]

Now the rains and the snows have washed away our white trimmin's of paint[00:02:17]

There ain't nothin' left but Doc's own sign and that's gettin' pretty faint[00:02:22]

But you can still see that old hitchin' post as if in answer[00:02:28]

To our prayers[00:02:32]

Mutually tellin' the whole wide world Doc brown has moved upstairs[00:02:34]
