Highlands - Bob Dylan[00:00:00]
Well my heart's in the highlands gentle and fair[00:00:36]
Honey suckle bloomin' in the wildwood air[00:00:46]
Bluebells blazin' where the Aberdeen waters flow[00:00:53]
Well my heart's in the highlands[00:01:08]
I'm gonna go there when[00:01:11]
I feel good enough to go[00:01:13]
Windows were shakin' all night in my dreams[00:01:25]
Everything was exactly the way that it seems[00:01:33]
Woke up this mornin' and I looked at the same old page[00:01:41]
Same old rat race life in the same old cage[00:01:56]
I don't want nothin' from anyone ain't that much to take[00:02:11]
Wouldn't know the difference between a real blonde and a fake[00:02:20]
Feel like a prisoner in a world of mystery[00:02:28]
I wish someone would come and push back the clock for me[00:02:42]
Well my heart's in the highlands wherever I roam[00:02:58]
That's where I'll be when I get called home[00:03:07]
The wind it whispers to the buck-eyed trees of rhyme[00:03:15]
Well my heart's in the highlands[00:03:29]
I can only get there one step at a time[00:03:33]
I'm listening to Neil Young I gotta turn up the sound[00:03:45]
Someone's always yellin' Turn him down[00:03:54]
Feel like I'm driftin' driftin' from scene to scene[00:04:02]
I'm wondering what in the devil could it all possibly mean[00:04:18]
Insanity is smashin' up against my soul[00:04:34]
You could say I was on anything but a roll[00:04:41]
If I had a conscience well I just might blow my top[00:04:49]
What would I do with it anyway maybe take it to the[00:05:05]
Pawn shop[00:05:11]
My heart's in the highlands at the break of dawn[00:05:21]
By the beautiful lake of the black swan[00:05:28]
Big white clouds like chariots that swing down low[00:05:37]
Well my heart's in the highlands only place left to go[00:05:51]
I'm in Boston town in some restaurant[00:06:06]
I got no idea what I want[00:06:16]
Or maybe I do but I'm just really not sure[00:06:24]
Waitress comes over nobody in the place but me and her[00:06:39]
Well it must be a holiday there's nobody around[00:06:53]
She studies me closely as I sit down[00:07:03]
She got a pretty face with long white shiny legs[00:07:11]
I said Tell me what I want she say[00:07:25]
You probably want hard boiled eggs[00:07:31]
I say That's right bring me some[00:07:42]
She says We ain't got any you picked the wrong time[00:07:50]
To come[00:07:55]
Then she says I know you're an artist draw a picture[00:07:58]
Of me[00:08:04]
I said I would if I could but[00:08:12]
I don't do sketches from memory[00:08:17]
Well she then she says[00:08:28]
I'm right here in front of you or haven't you looked[00:08:29]
I say All right I know but I don't have my[00:08:37]
Drawing book[00:08:41]
She gives me a napkin she say[00:08:45]
You can do it on that[00:08:50]
I say Yes I could but I don't know where my pencil[00:09:00]
Is at[00:09:07]
She pulls one out from behind her ear[00:09:16]
She says All right now go ahead draw me I'm stayin'[00:09:24]
Right here[00:09:29]
I make a few lines and I show it for her[00:09:32]
To see[00:09:38]
Well she takes her napkin and throws it back and says[00:09:46]
That don't look a thing like me[00:09:52]
I said Oh kind Miss it most certainly does[00:10:03]
She say You must be jokin' I say I wish I was[00:10:12]
Then she says You don't read women authors do ya at least[00:10:19]
That's what I think I hear her say[00:10:24]
Well I said How would you know and what would it[00:10:34]
Matter anyway[00:10:41]
Well she says You just don't seem like you do I said[00:10:49]
You're way wrong[00:10:55]
She says Which ones have you read then I say[00:10:59]
I've read[00:11:03]
Erica Jong[00:11:03]
She goes away for a minute and I slide out out of[00:11:06]
My chair[00:11:13]
I step outside back to the busy street but nobody is goin'[00:11:21]
Anywhere[00:11:29]
Well my heart's in the highlands with the horses and hounds[00:11:37]
Way up in the border country far from the towns[00:11:46]
With the twang of the arrow and the snap of the bow[00:11:53]
My heart's in the highlands I can't see any other way[00:12:09]
To go[00:12:16]
Every day is the same thing out the door[00:12:25]
Feel further away than ever before[00:12:33]
Some things in life it just gets too late to learn[00:12:41]
Well I'm lost somewhere I must have made a few bad turns[00:12:54]
I see people in the park forgettin' their troubles and woes[00:13:12]
They're drinkin' and dancin' wearin' bright colored clothes[00:13:20]
All the young men with the young women lookin' so good[00:13:29]
Well I'd trade places with any of 'em in a minute[00:13:42]
If I could[00:13:50]
I'm crossing the street to get away from a mangy dog[00:13:59]
Talkin' to myself in a monologue[00:14:08]
I think what I need might be a full length leather coat[00:14:15]
Somebody just asked me if I've registered to vote[00:14:31]
The sun is beginnin' to shine on me[00:14:46]
But it's not like the sun that used to be[00:14:54]
The party's over and there's less and less to say[00:15:03]
I got new eyes everything looks far away[00:15:18]
Well my heart's in the highlands at the break of day[00:15:33]
Over the hills and far away[00:15:42]
There's a way to get there and I'll figure it out somehow[00:15:50]
Well I'm already there in my mind and that's good enough[00:16:04]
For now[00:16:12]
