Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Live In New Jersey 14/3/08) - Iron Maiden[00:00:00]
Written by:Steve Harris[00:00:03]
Hear the rime of the ancient mariner[00:00:30]
See his eye as he stops one of three[00:00:32]
Mesmerizes one of the wedding guests[00:00:35]
Stay here and listen to the nightmares of the sea[00:00:36]
And the music plays on as the bride passes by[00:00:43]
Caught by his spell and the mariner tells his tale[00:00:45]
Driven south to the land of the snow and ice[00:00:51]
To a place where nobody's been[00:00:53]
Through the snow fog flies on the albatross[00:00:55]
Hailed in God's name hoping good luck it brings[00:00:57]
And the ships sails on back to the north[00:01:04]
Through the fog and ice and the albatross follows on[00:01:06]
The mariner kills the bird of good omen[00:01:37]
His shipmates cry against what he's done[00:01:42]
But when the fog clears they justify him[00:01:46]
And make themselves a part of the crime[00:01:50]
Sailing on and on and north across the sea[00:01:54]
Sailing on and on and north 'til all is calm[00:02:02]
The albatross begins with its vengeance[00:02:11]
A terrible curse a thirst has begun[00:02:15]
His shipmates blame bad luck on the mariner[00:02:19]
About his neck the dead bird is hung[00:02:24]
And the curse goes on and on and on at sea[00:02:27]
And the thirst goes on and on for them and me[00:02:35]
Day after day day after day[00:02:44]
We stuck nor breath nor motion[00:02:46]
As idle as a painted ship upon a painted ocean[00:02:48]
Water water everywhere and all the boards did shrink[00:02:52]
Water water everywhere nor any drop to drink[00:02:57]
There calls the mariner there comes a ship o'er the line[00:03:13]
But how can she sail with no wind in her sails and no tide[00:03:20]
See onward she comes[00:03:26]
Onward she nears out of the sun[00:03:32]
See she has no crew[00:03:39]
She has no life wait but there's two[00:03:44]
Death and she life in death they throw their dice for the crew[00:03:51]
She wins the mariner and he belongs to her now[00:03:57]
Then crew one by one they drop down dead two hundred men[00:04:03]
She she life in death she let's him live her chosen one[00:04:16]
One after one by the star dogged moon[00:06:11]
Too quick for groan or sigh[00:06:15]
Each turned his face with a ghastly pang[00:06:18]
And cursed me with his eye[00:06:22]
Four times fifty living men[00:06:26]
And I heard nor sigh nor groan[00:06:29]
With heavy thump a lifeless lump[00:06:32]
They dropped down one by one[00:06:35]
The curse it lives on in their eyes[00:08:01]
The mariner he wished he'd die[00:08:06]
Along with the sea creatures[00:08:11]
But they lived on so did he[00:08:13]
And by the light of the moon[00:08:21]
He prays for their beauty not doom[00:08:25]
With heart he blesses them[00:08:31]
God's creatures all of them too[00:08:33]
Then the spell starts to break[00:08:41]
The albatross falls from his neck[00:08:45]
Sinks down like lead into the sea[00:08:50]
Then down in falls comes the rain[00:08:55]
Hear the groans of the long dead seamen[00:11:24]
See them stir and they start to rise[00:11:26]
Bodies lifted by good spirits[00:11:28]
None of them speak and they're lifeless in their eyes[00:11:30]
And revenge is still sought penance starts again[00:11:36]
Cast into a trance and the nightmare carries on[00:11:38]
Now the curse is finally lifted[00:11:45]
And the mariner sights his home[00:11:47]
Spirits go from the long dead bodies[00:11:49]
Form their own light and the mariner's left alone[00:11:51]
And then a boat came sailing towards him[00:12:23]
It was a joy he could not believe[00:12:27]
The pilot's boat his son and the hermit[00:12:31]
Penance of life will fall onto him[00:12:35]
And the ship sinks like lead into the sea[00:12:39]
And the hermit shrieves the mariner of his sins[00:12:47]
The mariner's bound to tell of his story[00:12:56]
To tell this tale wherever he goes[00:13:00]
To teach God's word by his own example[00:13:04]
That we must love all things that God made[00:13:08]
And the wedding guest's a sad and wiser man[00:13:12]
And the tale goes on and on and on and on[00:13:20]
