Self-Acceptance Leads to Happiness [00:00:17]
Finding acceptance is a natural desire of most people. [00:00:21]
When we are young, [00:00:26]
it is important to us to be accepted [00:00:28]
by a group and to be seen as "cool" by our peers. [00:00:30]
To do this, [00:00:35]
we will often adopt the views and interests [00:00:36]
of the group rather than develop our own. [00:00:40]
Over time, however, [00:00:43]
we have the opportunity to [00:00:44]
learn to accept ourselves. [00:00:47]
People who have done this are confident [00:00:50]
in their true abilities; [00:00:52]
they do not feel the need to create [00:00:54]
a facade to impress other people. [00:00:56]
They are concerned with [00:00:59]
whether their actions produce worthwhile results [00:01:01]
rather than with how they are seen by others. [00:01:05]
Less secure people are quite different. [00:01:09]
Instead of finding security in themselves, [00:01:12]
they look for other people to provide it. [00:01:16]
This kind of person constantly agrees [00:01:18]
with everything others suggest, [00:01:22]
for fear of having their own ideas rejected. [00:01:24]
Arrogant or defensive people [00:01:28]
are also usually insecure; [00:01:30]
in an attempt to hide their insecurities, [00:01:33]
they belittle or blame others. [00:01:36]
Secure people do not give up [00:01:39]
when faced with a difficult situation; [00:01:41]
they say "I can" rather than "I can't." [00:01:44]
Knowing that each day is an opportunity to [00:01:49]
use their talents to acquire good health, [00:01:52]
good friendships, and great happiness, [00:01:55]
they always put their best foot forward. [00:01:58]
Contented people do not judge others, [00:02:01]
nor do they judge themselves. [00:02:05]
They can appreciate the differences [00:02:07]
between themselves and other people. [00:02:09]
Recognizing the details [00:02:13]
that we cannot change about ourselves [00:02:15]
is also a sign of personal growth. [00:02:18]
We cannot change our height, [00:02:21]
so why waste energy complaining about being short? [00:02:24]
Our energy would be better spent [00:02:28]
on more constructive projects. [00:02:30]
Instead of dwelling on personal characteristics [00:02:33]
we are not satisfied with, [00:02:36]
we ought to focus more on what we are good at. [00:02:38]
Such expressions as "Love thyself" [00:02:42]
and "to thine own self be true" [00:02:46]
are about self-acceptance and confidence, [00:02:49]
as well as honesty and morality. [00:02:53]
We should consider them to be good advice, [00:02:56]
and treat them as signposts showing [00:02:59]
the way to happiness within. [00:03:02]
