The most common type of child abuse, you know, [00:00:00]
is beating with hands or with an instrument, [00:00:03]
usually a cane in some places. [00:00:05]
Nearly a third of the abused children we see are in the [00:00:08]
age group between 6 and 10, [00:00:12]
and about 65% of them are boys. [00:00:14]
This is the age group when children are first expected to [00:00:18]
study hard, and parents have great expectations of their [00:00:21]
progress in school. [00:00:25]
Boys, of course, attract more abuse such as beating, [00:00:27]
because once again parental expectations are high and boys [00:00:31]
tend to be more energetic and difficult to control than girls. [00:00:36]
Most experts seem to agree that child abuse is caused by a[00:00:41]
combination of social and psychological factors. [00:00:46]
Families who beat their children are not particularly [00:00:51]
different from other people. [00:00:54]
The only difference that exists between them is [00:00:56]
that they lack skills in establishing good relationships with [00:00:59]
their children. [00:01:03]
These families too, generally speaking, have other problems [00:01:04]
such as marriage problems or financial problems. [00:01:09]
Some parents are hurting their children [00:01:13]
because they strongly believe in the use of traditional [00:01:15]
disciplinary methods. [00:01:18]
But many of them have emotional problems. [00:01:21]
They are often the victims of violence themselves. [00:01:24]
Sometimes they even bear an unreasonable hatred for a child [00:01:27]
because they believe that the child has brought the family [00:01:32]
bad luck. [00:01:36]
