The Seasons

The Seasons - Loreena McKennitt (罗琳娜·麦肯尼特)[00:00:00]

Traditional English, arranged by Loreena McKennitt[00:00:16]

Come all you lads and lasses,[00:00:20]

I'd have you give attention[00:00:23]

To these few lines I'm about to write here,[00:00:26]

'Tis of the four seasons of the year that I shall mention,[00:00:32]

The beauty of all things doth appear.[00:00:38]

And now you are young and all in your prosperity,[00:00:45]

Come cheer up your hearts and revive like the spring[00:00:51]

Join off in pairs like the birds in February[00:00:58]

That St. Valentine's Day it forth do bring.[00:01:04]

Then cometh Spring, which all the land doth nourish;[00:01:20]

The fields are beginning to be decked with green,[00:01:25]

The trees put forth their buds[00:01:32]

and the blossoms they do flourish,[00:01:34]

And the tender blades of corn on the earth are to be seen.[00:01:38]

Don't you see the little lambs by the dams a-playing?[00:01:44]

The cuckoo is singing in the shady grove.[00:01:50]

The flowers they are springing,[00:01:57]

the maids they go a-Maying,[00:02:00]

In love all hearts seem now to move.[00:02:03]

Next cometh Autumn with the sun so hot and piercing;[00:02:18]

The sportsman goes forth with his dog and his gun[00:02:25]

To fetch down the woodcock,[00:02:32]

the partridge and the pheasant,[00:02:35]

For health and for profit as well as for fun.[00:02:38]

Behold, with loaded apple-trees the farmer is befriended,[00:02:44]

They will fill up his casks that have long laid dry.[00:02:50]

All nature seems to weary now,[00:02:57]

her task is nearly ended,[00:03:01]

And more of the seasons will come by and by.[00:03:05]

When night comes on with song[00:03:30]

and tale we pass the wintry hours;[00:03:32]

By keeping up a cheerful heart we hope for better days.[00:03:37]

We tend the cattle, sow the seed,[00:03:44]

give work unto the ploughers,[00:03:47]

With patience wait till winter yields[00:03:51]

before the sun's fair rays.[00:03:54]

And so the world goes round and round,[00:03:58]

and every time and season[00:04:01]

With pleasure and with profit[00:04:05]

crowns the passage of the year,[00:04:07]

And so through every time of life,[00:04:12]

to him who acts with reason,[00:04:15]

The beauty of all things doth appear.[00:04:19]

END[00:04:45]
